Imagine, all the way back in 2018, your favorite hero is taken away from you is watered down into a hollow shell of its former self to satisfy a party that had zero interest in Symmetra to begin with. The OGs were WRONGED back then and completely robbed of their main character.
I don’t care if 3.0 is better, it’s not true to who she was. I’m not defending this sad experimental version of her either. Some semblance of how she used to be with more effective changes to accommodate the role change is absolutely mandatory.
Her second rework was by far the most unfair change in Overwatch’s history. Your OG players are entitled to play what was advertised in the first place, otherwise you just scammed people out of the experience they initially paid for.
If this game worried less about making it more like a black-and-white FPS game and more about having fun and making quirky strategies work, maybe Overwatch wouldn’t be nearly as desolate as it is now.
This idea of “staying true to a heroes identity” is extremely overrated.
What exactly was her identity ? A cheesy throw pick with a bunch of unbalanceable and forced mechanics that were both ultimately useless and also unfun to fight against ? That’s always been her real identity in this game and it’s undeniable that 3.0 was a good step towards fixing that. 1.0 is what happens when you just throw in a bunch of stuff that sounds cool without thinking about how on earth those mechanics will actually function in a fast paced FPS shooter. Sym stuck out like a sore thumb in a bad way. She’s unironically the worst designed hero in this games history, even worse than doomfist.
1.0 was fun, don’t get me wrong, she was one of my most played heroes, but she was a flop, and the devs can’t keep her a throw pick just because an extremely small amount of people liked her kit.
Alright now this is just silly. It’s a live service game, The devs have every right to change whatever they want in the game. Is this a serious argument ? You didn’t pay to play on one patch for the entirety of overwatches lifespan, you paid for OVERWATCH, which is a game that changed and evolved many times since release. If you get too overly emotionally attatched to something, then live service games aren’t for you.
There’s this thing called “buffs”, where they take a character and increase a few numbers to make it better. Don’t say it would’ve still flopped, you don’t know that because they never TRIED to make it work. They literally deleted her file and made something else, which again, was not a fair move for her original playerbase.
Yes, that’s exactly what she was. Now she’s just a throw pick without the cheese. She was a voluptuous cheese wheel, now she’s a puny blue triangle of mold in the back of the fridge.
The heroes were the main advertising point for Overwatch, Symmetra obviously being one of them. I observe gameplay footage, I go “that character looks fun, sure I’ll buy this game” and then 2 years later its gone. How is that not being scammed? Girl bye.
Then you just end up with an overpowered monstrosity. Doomfist at his peak is the best example of why buffing a hero with poor design is the worst thing to do.
Now that doomfist got nerfed, he pretty much can’t exist now. Because his poorly designed kit REQUIRES him to be extremely busted in order to be a real hero. There’s no middle ground with these sorts of heroes. You buff them, they become disgusting. You nerf them, they become useless. Same with Sym 1.0 lmao, she couldn’t be a real hero unless the devs overtuned the absolute crap out of her. And i’m GLAD they went down the route of slowly trying to make her kit AN ACTUAL REAL KIT THAT CAN FUNCTION instead of trying to force this gimmicky nonsense 1.0 kit.
and the real tea is, her identity from day 1 is central on claiming enemy territory, zone the enemy, and wreak havoc on the enemy team in conjunction to that zoning.
to then want her to completely forego that identity to shoehorn her into the mould of having their gameplay focal on babysitting teammates 24-7 on-call for whenever and wherever they need heals/buffs/etc. would actually be what’d wrong/scam sym players (both OG and new).
OP really needs to learn to differentiate between “I really want a new support” vs “X hero should be a support”.
That and/or realise that what supports do largely does not coincide with what sym is about.
she isn’t a throw pick, she’s a niche hero now, high elo players and pros definitely would not call sym a throw pick. Have you seen the way pros flawlessly execute symmetra on certain maps ? It’s actually amazing to see.
Literally ask anyone above 3.5 if they think symmetra is a bad hero.
Now imagine 1.0 ever seeing any proper high elo/ pro play. Never in a million years LMAO.
You think this doesn’t apply to 3.0? When she was utterly overpowered for 5 days and then reverted all the changes, making her complete trash again? I agree, 3.0 is also bad hero design.
This mindset is what killed Overwatch. Making it more black-and-white and cookie cutter type of FPS while killing off every MOBA element that made Overwatch interesting to even non-gamers. Snore, no one cares about the competitive scene. She’s died.
I know what I want. I want my sys to be a Support.
Are you even listening to what i’m saying ? I’m literally saying i like 3.0 sym. Who is STILL far, FAR off from what is considered the norm
in terms of a traditional FPS…. like seriously, you’re so hard headed it’s insane.
Ok tbh all this thread is proving is that you don’t know the first thing about hero design and proper balance.
First by you assuming sym 1.0’s issues was that she needed buffs when thats the last thing she needed.
And you thinking they want the game to be a black and white fps after adding brigette, hammond and doomfist???
BLACK AND WHITE FPS WHERE? Every new addtion turns this game LESS AND LESS INTO A TRADITONAL FPS LMAOFDSFSDSDF
Like are we even playing the same game at this point LMAO.
It makes more and more sense as to why the devs frequently disregard the forum when it comes to feedback and balance if this is what they’ll come across.
the whole point of 3.0 with tp on e is so that sym can more independently go in and out of enemy territory to claim it rather than “I can only zone defensively be reinforce current claimed area because I can reach enemy territory without dying”, and to allow sym to move her zones to the enemy rather than always having to wait for enemies to go to her.
heck even when you look at the typical “tp to point” strat, what’s sym doing there?
tp to point
immediately turret up the point ----> i.e. claiming the area of the point (enemy territory) esp with her team deathball being there which further reinforces the takeover of the area
proceed to brawl with weapon while enemy team has to contest but worry about turrets and sym charging up if they do go in to contest (zoning in action).
heck even turret bomb flanks are of the the same logic/process:
tp turrets in —> immediately claim a circle with 10m radius of area in enemy territory.
sym following through to orb + maybe melee to bring the burst for then the turrets to finish off
