Octopath traveler?

is it worth getting for someone who hasn’t played much JRPG?

I never played the old Final Fantasy games, just Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII-2

Update: for those wondering why I am asking about this game on a Overwatch forum, I’m debating on getting the game and I got tired of seeing topics complaining about this, complaining about that, the forum is literally just that at this point… this topic gives a break to the forum. This is coming from a fan of Overwatch who is slowly loosing interest in this game. Just trying to change the mood.

Any Sombra mains here? I can recommend Witcher 3. It’s such an underrated indie gem, just like Sombra

I haven’t played it yet, though I think it was made by the same team that made bravely default and bravely second which were good games.

If I had a switch, I’d get it.

Octopath is ridiculously good. I never really got into Final Fantasy games as much as I wanted to because the cutscenes always annoyed me, but Octopath’s are all really nice and you can actually skip them if you want. The gameplay is really fun and the job system is neat. I just got to everyone’s final chapter (each character has four chapters) and I’ve put over 40 hours into it already.

I wasn’t following it at all before release and kinda just got it on a whim and have been so pleasantly surprised it’s unreal.

Neither have I, and I love it.

Each character has a short first chapter that basically acts as a tutorial for their abilities.

Also, every character is extremely unique except that 2 share their “out-of-combat” ability.

The leveling can be a grind, but it’s honestly so much fun. I recommend it.

I also suggest looking up guides for some things so you understand each character’s main role.

Does the grind only start once you get to chapter 4? I haven’t had to grind yet but I just finished everyone’s chapter 3 and the only one who is above 40 is my main Tressa (lv 46).

Did you mostly just grind in pre-boss chapter 4 dungeons to get the rest up to level? Or is there some secret other place that’s better?

I’ve barely played. I had to grind a little to get Cyrus up to chapter 2. It’s not my game, so I have to transfer the data to my switch when I actually get it.

I got lucky with some Caits so I got huge XP boosts pretty early.

Ohh. Yeah don’t worry too much about the grind after that point. Just make sure you do everyone’s chapters before moving onto another hero’s next chapter and you should be good. The transition from chapter 1 to chapter 2 for the first hero is definitely the roughest one so far but it gets easier with each character because your main ends up super overpowered.

Cyrus is a good main to have definitely. For a while I was using two Scholars since the double elemental hits can break most bosses super fast. Also make sure you always have a hunter and always use Leghold Trap on the last turn before the enemy stops being broken. Gives you ample time to rebreak them so they only end up having one turn in between breaks.

I’m using a 8 job team eventually. I like having the options.

Well yeah that works sometimes but isn’t always necessary. Also you end up not having to focus on only a secondary job for each hero. So far my main has four completed jobs and everyone else has three except Primrose who has a mishmash of five lol. I love being able to switch the jobs around and making the men dancers lol.

By completed job I’m not talking about the Divine Ability. I got that for Tressa and Haanit before realizing I wasn’t ever going to use it in normal battle. The 5000 you have to save up for it can be used to fully upgrade another job and get 4 new passives.

I’m waiting to do the 5000 for endgame.

I here it’s a good game, but here is my real question. Why is this on the Overwatch forums?

I’d rather have this than the spew of sludge it’s been the past couple days, lol.

I plan on getting it really soon with my switch I’ve saved up for. I love the team’s other games on the 3ds and am excited to dig into it.

In terms of mains, I recommend Tressa. You get money almost every time you enter an area so you end up saving up a lot. I would say Therion since so many dungeons have a thief-only chest, but I find thieves useless in battle. Their whole main selling point (Share BP) can be done with a plum lol.

Couple of days? I think you mean several months.

(there are some good posts here, but they are buried by people complaining about stuff they asked for)

:open_mouth:
Actaully, Final Fantasy after somewhere X stopped being jrpg and started being “click simulator” … Though from what I’ve seen on youtube this last part is promising … at least.
BTW, FFVII and FFIX are a must play for any Final Fantasy fan …

MAX truth right there, lol! I’m ready to get my Switch + OT + Splatoon 2 so I can just leave this game and community on the shelf for a little while. I love this game to death, but a long break is long overdue, haha!
