Oceanic Random Latency Spikes

For the past few days, I noticed that after a couple of normal games with 20ms or so, my latency would climb up to anywhere from 300 to 500+ ms (Syd2 server). I check my Task Manager to see if anything is using the connection or downloading but there isn’t any. I am on an ethernet connection with 1Gbps speeds. My specs are 12900K, RTX 5080, 32GB RAM.

It usually takes a game shutdown and waiting for 15 mins for things to normalise again. This has been happening for weeks now! I had to stop myself from buying the Battle Pass coz this issue keeps on persisting and I am not getting any help from these forums.

This happens to me too. Waiting, or game shutdowns mean nothing, it’s random when it will start working again, and the problem is on Blizz’ end.

Nothing we can do until they start valuing Oceanic players.

Hey can you check what the IP of the laggy SYD2 server is?

It says SYD2 in game - and I can see 137.221.81.99… but for some odd reason in ExitLag its saying JP Tokyo

Confirm in South East Asia got lag spike also!!!

The odd thing is, all the other players in the lobby say they have normal ping except for me. Is it possible I am getting routed through other regions before coming back to the Aus server? I don’t know why that would be the case.

Yes - can you try the same test as me?

So basically when you connect to a laggy Sydney server, find out the server’s IP (you can use Resource Monitor, or NetLimiter)

Do a trace route (open command prompt, then type ‘tracert 137.221.xxx.xx’) - where you would replace the numbers with the IP from earlier.

What i found was interesting. When I’m using my ISP, the route goes all around from Sydney all around the world and back.

But if I try my mobile hotspot (from a different provider), the same tracert test is local routes only.

IDK if that means its Blizzard’s fault, or our ISP’s fault.

FWIW, my ISP is part of the Opticomm network, not NBN.

Feel free to add me on bnet if you wanna discuss off the forums (Banethor#oneoneone59)

My brother and I live together. He randomly gets a 400 ping and I still have 25 in the same game. I know another couple that get the same thing.

It’s really odd.

A couple of weeks later, I’m still here. It’s still happening! I need to know what’s going on.

The game frequently put me on servers outside of Australia, in places like Singapore and Japan. High lag and disconnections were a daily occurrence and I just couldn’t get enough of it.

It doesn’t even need to be outside the region. I get put in Syd2 servers randomly where I get 300-500ms while the other players seem to be fine. This does not seem to be an isolated issue as I’d get into perfectly normal games where someone else is complaining about the same thing.
