đź›° OC | How The Recent Activision Problems May Affect Overwatch

Aka Money Problems

I commented with this:

OWL has over $200Million invested in it. OWL season 2 may have almost no DPS in an eSports “Shooter”. They got about 3-4 weeks of full-staff dev time to fix that. Not nearly enough to do that with balance. But there is an easy solution:
2 Healers maximum per Team, coded into the hero select screen.
Would shut down GOATs, but allow nearly every other popular composition to run just fine.

Not a money guy so, I will leave that stuff to the devs… or who ever they leave that for.

But likely control what happens here the most.

Overwatch is kind of their golden goose atm.

if they kill it they are screwed.

but currently they are underfeeding it and its living in a cardboard box with a little santa hat.

Activision will likely kill the golden goose before they realize that nothing else is keeping them afloat.

Blizzard really isn’t a thing anymore.

Its only activision now.

or alternatively fix mercy so that she is viable so that she can support the goats counters because as it is currently with mercy being abit of a throw pick (even the community will yell at you if you even think about playing her)

Putting restrictions on their esports will just make it clear they cant balance their title correctly.

We should at some point look to making the game about actually switching and not just mirror matches and limiting hero selection isn’t going to help with our low hero count.

They need this sorted out by the end of 2019 at the latest if not people are going to be fed up.

Well, I’m just putting that $200Million just based on the buy-in cost for teams. The actual amount might be much higher than that.

You really think it’s possible for them to do almost any balance change in about 3 weeks, that would ends GOATs, without potentially catastrophic side effects?

Feel like been backed to the edge of cliff here.

Well if they want goats to not be so problematic itd stand to reason to give goats counters a leg to stand on so we can play the game as it was ment to be played.

they should take their time and get it right but it does need to happen or else this game is going to bleed to death xd

junkrat and bastion could counter goats if they weren’t so bad and since mercy pairs best with the goats counters itd be best for the game overall if she was competitively viable and not useless in comparison to the other main healers.

we have the tools to counter goats but they aren’t properly balanaced to actually do so when picked.

That says what so many are trying to say in a very accurate and concise way. Nice.

It’s not just Activision, it seems to be all over. Just so many cold corporate moves…

Either do that, or just do what any league would have done if it wasn’t owned by the game maker - ban Brigitte from pro play.

Would make a Blizzard joke, but I live in Houston and we never had any.

They gotta have a patch and ruleset ready, 2-3 weeks before February 14th.

And that entire OWL Tournament stage will be locked into that patch/rules for months.

Just my 2c, I say just SLOW DOWN and make everything work properly lol. It’s important to keep in mind that these heroes dont exist in a vacuum, you change one little thing, you have to wait and see how it bounces off the other 28 heroes. People may think, oh 1 second off this is no big deal but it just happens to synergize with this hero over here now in an unforseen way.

They dont give anything time, and I think that’s their fault for establishing the pace they did. Just one guys opinion but let the dust settle a bit before massive tuinings and new heroes.

Nawh we let the tournament happen and they can focus on balancing the game.

we don’t need to rush things.

we did that with 2.0 and we all regret that decision on the devs part.

we need to do things correctly or else we will continue to have the same problems and the same stale meta.

You’re right, and it’s unexplainable that they would cut so many corners by not investing in said proven golden goose while diverting so much money to “unannounced projects” that may or may not succeed. It’s a really strange move on their part.

Do you (general you) think more people are interested in esports than new content?

So we just let an entire tournament stage run with horrible team comps that nobody wants to watch?

Its what the pros are used to currently so for the sake of their competition its the best option.

we don’t need or want to rush things.

It always ends badly for the games health.

This. SO this. If comp is important than a familiar base of rules and tools needs to exist. You cant have a football league and be like, “ok this season the ball is twice as big, theres 3 quarterbacks and pads are optional”.

If you build a hero with a solid kit they should be sound enough to stand the test of time. Ya they will have dips and peaks in popularity, but STOP TOUCHING THE LEVERS lol. Just do it right once and leave it.

Though they seemly seem like they could rush. Remember they said they have 6 heroes being tested on the Dev’s testing realm. Aka that stage before PTR. (though heroes could be trapped there for months or years due to a number of things.)

You know what’s bad for a games health?

When the parent company invests a quarter BILLION dollars into an eSports for the game, and the eSports looks horrible.

All the while they have already been in a profit saving mode with the game.

You don’t think that sort of issue won’t come back to bite the “health” of the main game?
