Object Permanence/Ult types

It’s kind of quirky that EMP will stop Hog from using a mechanical device, yet won’t stop Soldier from aimbotting. Oh it’ll stop him from running though.

When Mei uses her ult, and Snowball is already deployed as in mid air, the ult has been fired like graviton; the object SHOULD persist. But no, if you are killed, Snowball magically disappears and your ult meter goes to 0. I’d be fine with it going to 0 if Snowball actually did its job when you press Q. However this whole “ult type” stuff comes into play.

What is the reasoning for having a “type” of ult? Why does EMP affect mechanical actions and not electrical ones and why does Snowball not persist when used?

Soldier’s ultimate is a transformation ultimate.
Transformation ultimates give the hero passive upgrades while allowing them to use their regular abilities without restriction, after forcing the hero to go through a brief transformation animation. An exception is Configuration: Tank, which disables Reconfigure due to the nature of the ability.

All Transformation ultimates are immune to losing the ultimate by getting stunned in the cast time.

Roadhog’s ultimate is a channeled ultimate.
Channeled ultimates force the hero to enter a new state where their ability is channeled for the duration, restricting their other abilities. Channeled ultimates can be interrupted through most forms of crowd control, with the exception of Transcendence due to its invulnerability.

These type of ultimates can be cancelled by CC at any moment .

Mei’s ultimate is a cast-time ultimate.
Cast-time ultimates require a small widow of time to pass before their effect is activated. During this window, if the user is interrupted through crowd control or other means, the ultimate will not take effect and is expended.

The “small widow of time” could be extended in a match thanks to latency and favor the shooter causing the already casted projectile to dissapear.

Is it fair? No, but this is what the developers have chosen.

It would be more fair if certain heroes got a refund, may it be a complete refund or a percentage to how early it was cancelled.
Especially considering that too much can cancel it with no countertplay.

They are making it too complicated. An ult is an ult. Once spent, it’s spent, and whatever effects happen when it starts, start IMMEDIATELY. Why is this the only game with ults that works this way
