Nvidia card keeps asking if I want to enable g-sync

This is diff than v-sync. Does it in widows itself. Other ppl enable this?

G-Sync is basically a next gen V-sync for nvidia graphic cards.
It removes screen tearing (well … almost) and should result in a smoother gameplay experience.

You can activate and deactivate it over the nvidia control panel.

100% removes tearing, and without the input lag that VSync introduces - but it requires a later-gen Nvidia card (980+ I think?) and a GSync-enabled monitor. Without both of those, it won’t work.

edit: looked it up, older GPUs support GSync now - so if you’re playing Overwatch with an NVidia card, chances are it supports GSync - you still need a GSync-compatible monitor, though.

A GTX 980 should be more than enough.

As mentioned, it removes screen tearing and increases the smoothness of the frames (I believe)

You don’t have to have a G-sync monitor specifically anymore, Nvidia caved and opened their technology up to all AMD monitors too (Freesync) because their technology is … free… and so they won the market.

To enable you can usually right click anywhere on the desktop, go to Nvidia Control Panel, and find the G-sync setting in there.

It’s not night-and-day difference but I think it’s noticeable. Really the most important thing, is ensuring if you have a 144hz+ monitor to set your video settings in game (OW in this example) to be outputting at 144hz or higher whatever your monitor can handle

This is why I said “GSync-compatible” :stuck_out_tongue:

I believe the G-Sync monitor has some extra tech in the monitor that makes it work better than FreeSync. But, I would def enable this on any display if the option is there.

Yeah sorry I didn’t really read the other responses just added my own “2 sense”

FYI though, Nvidia have done testing on only a small handful of monitors that they claim are then “supported” or “G-sync compatible”

The reality is, loads of untested monitors are also compatible, but if you were buying for the first time that’d be at your own risk

If the OP is receiving notifications about enabling G-Sync, i’ll assume on this occasion that their monitor is compatible, G-sync or not!

Yeah, there are some Youtube videos out there showing off crazy problems with some (uncertified) Freesync monitors - artifacting, black screens, massive flickering, etc.

I think it’s pretty likely, yeah.

Would that work on my laptop?

Nividia 1050ti
60 hz monitor
Dell inspiron 15 7000 gaming

If you mean you’re plugging your laptop into a 60 hz monitor then no
If you mean your laptop screen is a 60 hz monitor then also no

The monitor itself (Whether laptop or external) should be a 144hz or the other usual spec is 240hz. This part is hardware.

You can’t “enable” 144 or 240 hz on a monitor if it simply doesn’t have the hardware. - check your monitors documentation

That aside, I think G-sync is enabled GPU side on all cards above the GTX 650, so your 1050ti should have it, though I can’t be sure whether laptop GPU’s work the same way as PC ones, sometimes their performance is a little less. You will have to do a little googling honestly

o my laptop’s monitor is 60 hz

and the laptop is strong but i get what you mean.

You can always get another monitor and plug it into your laptop - that’s what I do if I have to use a laptop.
