However there are still some characters that are just strong enough to gatekeep certain heroes or even castes of heroes from being viable.
Mei isnt OP currently, she needs toning down
McCree isnt OP currently, but he needs toning down
Rein+zarya are balanced orisa is weak currently, but shes also an oppressive tank, and her metas are incredibly bland. Should she stay weak forever? no. Should we enjoy our break from having to see the horse every game? absolutely

A hero that literally prevents an entire role doing anything, you’re right not op.

mei is the only character who does that right now, and im 100% sure shes getting nerfed in the next few weeks

Exactly, the sad thing is she does it even better than reaper (the actual “tank counter”) but I don’t see why you’re claiming she isn’t op
in reality she isnt OP, shes just oppressive and feels like shes OP
and you can look at my past threads and see that im not a biased mei player, i hate her with a burning passion but i can see that she only needs small changes / reverts
Fair enough you are probably right but let’s be honest and say how many games are actually won (by the team without mei) vs mei.
That would be OP. If it existed. It doesn’t.
I don’t know how many games I won easily today, but Mei was in every one of them. I played enough to do my 9 Arcade wins and then some, and lost only like 2 games. Even won some clutch rounds despite a Mei ult trying to take point.
This idea that she somehow shuts down all tanks is nonsense. Zarya can really mess with her, and as Brig, I counter her all the time. Dash in the way, bonk her away, shield an ally from being frozen or right as they’re about to be, etc. Easy peasy.

If a character needs toning down, that is synonymous with a character being OP.

diamond+ when you arent playing against meis who are in line for their brain transplants are horrible to be against and i really want people to understand that lol
so many people say “lol just go zarya” or “lol just go orisa, widow, mccree” and really dont know how different gameplay is in higher ranks
nah, needing toning down means a character is strong, orisa was OP, sigma was OP, immortal rez mercy and mercy 2.0 were OP, mei is just really strong
Just because a character doesn’t need to be sledgehammered into the ground doesn’t mean they’re not OP.

what im getting at is that theres a difference between Strong and Overpowered
Nah. It really isn’t that hard to shut her down. Her kit only does so much. In Diamond and up, you have access to a lot more options. Mei is pretty straightforward to deal with. This idea that she shuts down tanks completely is completely nonsense.

If a character is just strong then they don’t need to be toned down.

You’re right, strong does not imply balance issues.
Mei is OP.

yeah but you arent 1v6ing a mei every fight, that mei has support, that mei has tanks making her space, and with that space shes able to freeze more targets and segment more players
The thing is you claim Zarya counters mei but I don’t see how this can be the case, Zarya bubble is usually a counter to a cooldown whether it be nade, a stun etc. But mei freeze is not a cooldown it is (almost) an endless stream of freeze so once bubble is used there’s nothing you can do.
Brig I guess can stun the mei but a smart mei can use cryo with ease. But rarely is mei the only enemy focusing the frozen target (or at least in a semi competent team).
No matter all this, when a tank gets walled there is very little any others can do. Sure you can break the pillars but even in a super coordinated team it just takes too long to break where the tank is borderline if not dead already.
Also I would not look at mei in arcade since that is a horrible place to look at hero balance since there is no team play or anyone being able to play the heroes to a good standard.

And your team is there. Covering you, knocking Mei away, bursting her down, etc. So the same applies.
The Mei hyperbole is just that: hyperbole. She isn’t that hard to shut down. Maybe in clown fiesta games where everyone wants to run around in 6 different 1v1s instead of a 6v6 she is oppressive, but in any kind of actual team game, she’s a lot easier to deal with.

In my experience, QPC is every bit as good a metric as any other mode, actually.
im going to stop replying to you because we’re playing 2 different games here
wow this is the most dense thing ive read lol
a gamemode with a completely different set of rules is a good place to judge the strength of a hero
