I feel so chained to my cooldowns now.
It feels alright for a little while when they are up but without them I can barely fly. Your mobility lasts long enough to duel someone with your 3 dashes but after that you gotta wait.
I much preferred when Pharah could sustain her flight for a while. You could use stuff like signs and the tops of arches as cover or constantly hover above people while they were distracted by someone else.
Now tho, it feels like echo flies better then you do.
That’s the issue. They made her more like Echo. Just like they made Ashe more like Cassidy and Hog more like Junkerqueen. It makes no sense because these heroes already exist and it just kills hero diversity. Homogenizing the roster is BORING!
As a 10 year pharah main… I can confirm to you that you’re right in what you feel.
She’s effectively unplayable. Lot of other parts of this patch that seem to be awful, but this particular hero change takes the cake for the worst change blizzard has ever made in any of their games.
yes, clearly I’m biased. But I’m really itching to play old pharah but she doesn’t even exist anywhere.
Letting feast or famine characters exist is precisely why counterwatch exists. It makes the game feel oppressive.
There is a huge gradient and Pharah and Echo play similar, but vastly different. Pharah is all about movement rapidly with a ton of options. Echo is all about bursting in or diving it.
The game is not heavily homogenized at all. People over react quite frequently about the difference between characters. Pharah has been a huge pain in the as for years. She lacks the consistent mobility like a tracer to juke hitscan, but completely dominates projectile heroes. Pharah has been a menace for ages. She’s not balanced, she’s heavily counter character. Super polarizing character.
The changes now more intentionally force a dive bomber style which increases PHarah’s success against counters, but equally makes counter play against her at all characters more possible.
They could have just given her the air dash as her only change. I would have been fine with that.
Changing the way her fuel works just feels like change fort he sake of change and its just less fun.
The fuel is what even allowed her to stay in the air nearly forever in the first place which is the core reason she dumpsters on a bunch of projectile heroes. A hero who can perpetually hover out or reach in an X-Y-Z direction instead of just AD spam on the ground with a giant easy rocket explosion.
Adding only an aird dash is not the answer. The increased projectile speed, DPS passive, and recovery time does help her DPS output for a better burst style of play. DPS passive to cut down on healing. Reducing fuel is precisely what causes her to come back down to the ground more frequently.
I thought so too but i would say pharah is the only hero for whom some thought process went into the patch, yesterday twist on the forum shared their replay, it’s absolutely fantastic as it break the who mercy dependency and they cover a lot distance fast , also have really good uptime pretty close to before.
The thing is if you are hardcore pharah main like them you will thrive , you have adopt the playstyle a bit but this movement is clean.
This is actually the opposite of our baby girl sombra rework were they watered her to anyone can pick, so now that dude who gets angry at your reaper and swaps to pharah won’t get value, while the good pharah mains can make good plays and do a bit better against hitscans but have fun.
The whole point is that she feels less significantly Pharah now. You still dumpster projectile characters because your both faster and you have another dash.
I signed up to be a Pharah main, not a half flying Tracer main.
I agree with that, I feel that with a lot with what happened to the game, and ya I’m a tracer hanzo two trick so I find this playstyle of pharah fun.
But mainly cause I found it more like independent pharah mains were liking it to like twist, fareeha etc.
Fareeha is gm , twist is plat but could easily climb and their pharah tech and aim is solid.
They both seem happy and more fun with new builds.
That said iget it if you feel like they crushed the identity of your hero, that’s something only you can tell as the heroes main as I don’t main pharah.
I feel they did the same to hanzo and tracer and watered their gameplay loop even though both are op now.
Hanzo especially is reduced to caricature meme of spamzo.
They made her lower damage, lower range, and faster reload. She used to be a perfect middle ground between Widow and Cassidy and now she is scoped Cassidy. It’s sad.
If this is their attempt at thinking I don’t think it’s for them… Forcing pharah to be on the ground to regen fuel is an incredibly stupid solution to reducing her verticality. It results in choppy and annoying gameplay. The correct solution would be to modify fuel amount or regen rates. Original pharah in OW1 could not maintain continuous flight and that was perfectly fine. The other changes are… okay? ish. I’d rather have a 2nd boop than a random directional boost.
It also means you can use your concussion blast more as a trap utility, to cut off escapes, mess up positioning, and to just pin somebody against a wall when they are slightly off the ground (i.e. They can’t move, unless they pop a mobility skill. And you mostly can’t miss.)
I’m fine with the Pharah tweaks in theory; my issue is how easy it is to be suddenly caught with zero fuel. Sometimes I like to hover just an inch off the ground, but when I do that, even though I’m not very high, suddenly a few seconds later I’m completely dead.
Before this patch, you would gain 100% fuel on the ground, 100% fuel in the air. Now it’s 100% fuel on the ground, 0% fuel in the air, which is WAY too oppressive. If it were 50%, or even 25% fuel regain while in the air, I could accept that, basically giving Pharah some ability to hover, while still making it tactically sound to touch the ground if you want to fuel up quicker.
Other positive changes (that’s my most desired but these would be nice too) would be a shorter cooldown on Jump Jet; they added that overfuel mechanic, yet I almost never experience it because I burn through my fuel so quickly. If you need to nerf Pharmercy, maybe give Pharah less health, or even a passive that makes it take her longer to heal, I dunno. Because while I sympathize greatly with people who don’t know how to deal with Pharah (spoilers, it’s Roadhog, it’s totally Roadhog, people seem to think it’s hitscans but it’s honestly just Roadhog, just play Roadhog), I don’t think the solution is to completely cut Pharah’s wings, either.
The first few times I got hooked, sure; I’ve learned better by now, but that doesn’t change the fact that he can survive Pharah’s bombardments while serving as an insta-kill if he lands that hook.
