You should ideally be doing an mmr reset every year at minimum. To not do one with the launch of a new game is just a bad idea, objectively.
just make a new free account reset your mmr yourself.
I disagree. Having bronze gold diamond and GMs in the same game doesn’t sound like fun at all. Your win loss ratio and your SR would be even more random as you might play against bronzes you just roll over or against a 4 stack of GMs spawn camping you.
Lol no an mmr reset would be horrible, you’d have a complete mismatch in skill for the first few months.
People who think they’re better than they are/think they deserve to be higher sr want an mmr reset…
If it’s a new game that’s how new games work
I can’t believe they still keep being stubborn about sr reset even after launching a so called “new” game.
Why do I have to be punished just for playing on an old account?
Is all this done to devalue all the cosmetics which people have earned so they make a new account and buy stuff or they are too afraid that their pros will get stuck in gold and won’t be able to climb back?
new game with the same sr LOL
at least they will abandon the stupid 4 digit number. 6 or even 10 tiers are more than fine.
This is a terrible idea, but I wouldnt be against resetting it for 5v5 launch.
For every bronzie who actually, genuinely belongs in Silver or Masters player who probably belongs in Diamond or Plat, we’d have a million Masters+ players wreaking havoc. And it’s not like it’d be fun for them, most high skilled players aren’t interested in what is basically Vs AI for them.
This forum has a sizeable population of people who see smurfs behind every shadowy corner, the cause of all their misfortunes. It would make their delusions a reality.
Did they state that officially?
Yes during the ama on Reddit they answered on one of the questions that they wont do a full SR/MMR Reset. However they do have a new kind of “decay” planned
Did they provide details on it?
I am kinda afraid that it is just a repaint of how rank is displayed and not going to be a new system… especially with their refusal to reset mmr and sr
No way Jose. I remember last time they did this and I went from GM to low Plat. I know a bunch of top 500 streamers who even got placed in damn Bronze. Decay is much more reasonable and makes more sense since inactive players can still play the game better than most people if they were already in higher ranks.
We won’t be performing a complete MMR reset for Overwatch 2, but we do plan on lowering the MMR of accounts who haven’t played in a while as part of a new “decay” system. A complete reset would mean that games would be completely imbalanced for weeks or longer across the entire service, and we don’t think that will be a great experience for everyone.
This basically it. But on the live stream they said that they’re reworking on how SR is calculated. Instead of adjusting SR each match, instead it will be calculated after several match so it will reflect on your skill more accurately. So bad games because of unlucky pair won’t punish you harder than it already is right now.
maybe because the system is busted or they aren’t that good to begin with.
It is going to be for MMR apparently and my issue with this is that I will have to stop playing on purpose if I want to even have a chance for a change.
Obviously this is the case. From a gameplay perspective, it makes NO SENSE to not do an MMR/SR reset, when they are changing most characters and maps, and making it 5v5? I mean, lol.
But I guess blizzard be needing that $$$
This. It’s a new game. Existing players will have advantages for sure, but the core structural changes to this game will mean completely different ranks for a LOT of people. Hell, I was meta boosted on Orisa before I said screw comp altogether. Playing her in OW2 will be completely different. Playing any other tank will be completely different. The matchmaking is not gonna be good.
As we get closer to launch it just seems like after 6 years they truly have not learned anything lol.
If you still can’t improve after a reset then the game is going to put you right back in the rank you belong anyway. Same applies to your potential scapegoat teammates
What good is a reset going to do that would offset possibly a month or more of unorganized chaos?
