Not Impressed (Matchmaker)

It seems the goal of the devs was to try and force every single match to be as even as possible. Which, might seem like a success, but know what? That’s not competitive. The officials in a sports game don’t look at your latest stats, and swap your teammates around just to make the game closer. Instead, Overwatch works hard to make it so i have to single handedly win the game, or we don’t with the game. If i play off heroes, the system adjusts to that sucky play and gives me the SAME chance. If i go main heroes, it’s easy for a couple games and then the system adjusts again. Why is the system adjusting to anything? To force each match to be as close and exciting as possible? I’m not impressed. If the only way you’re getting close matches is to handicap the crap out of them, then that’s a failure.

WHY can i have one account 800 SR higher than the other, and the higher account’s games are EASIER? That says i CAN hang at a higher rank, but the system itself isn’t allowing it on my other accounts, because who knows. In order to make an even match down there, i have to be handicapped with the worst players the matchmaker can find.

WHY don’t you trust the SR and just toss 12 random players around the same rank together and leave it at that?

MMR turns this game into the most frustrating game of all time. Literally, the most frustrating experience in my 35 years of gaming. Ive been gaming since f’n Pac-Man on Atari 2600, and congrats Overwatch. Your matchmaking system has made this the absolute #1 most frustrating game of all time.

I love the base game, but the matchmaker completely ruins the experience.

I’ve played at higher ranks, and i actually saved many games single handedly, even at 2800. I CAN play up there, and it’s not even hard. But know what? Game thinks otherwise. It’s handing me an endless stream of what it considers close games by handicapping the HECK out of the teams. Good games, if you watch ONE. If you’re forced to sit and play these games, where you can look around and see you’re outmatched, and if YOU don’t single handedly win the game, you lose. That’s the spot my account is in. Other players? Seems they can just run around on Sombra and pitch in just about nothing and keep the same rank. Why? Forced even matches, trying to help everyone with half their matches.

SO many players on these forums have come along and said that they’re tired of always having to carry. The game FORCES this to happen, because if it just made any old random matches, chances are they’d just win a lot of games and rank up quickly. Overwatch don’t want that. Overwatch wants you to grind forever. So, you get the crap teammates. You get to play vs. 2 plats, with a silver on your team. Don’t think we don’t notice this stuff. You’re rigging the games and that is the OPPOSITE of Competitive. The goal had to be to keep players interested, but in the end it backfires. In the end, the game is pointless. The GAME decides your rank, probably based on a few stats. Never mind the intangibles. Never mind that YOU save the point each time or it simply doesn’t get done.

PLEASE, for Overwatch 2, turn all that crap off. I know you spent millions, in order to rig up matches to force more play time. But if you want this thing to be taken seriously, stop with all that. There’s a reason Overwatch never really landed with the real esport community. It’s because playing the game is beyond frustrating. I feel it comes down to the hidden rating, the matchmaking and the attempt at keeping casuals engaged with handicapped matches.

Turn it all off.

The goal of the game is not and it should not be to purely rank up. The rank and sr number is just there as a shiny token to make you feel better if you really improve. The goal is to make every game as competitive as possible. We don’t need “random” games (which guess what every game is inherently random unless you’re going in with two premade 6-stacks), the point is for people to always be playing at their skill level as much as possible where they get the optimal level of challenge.

You say they don’t guarantee even teams in “real” sports. You know what else they don’t have in “real” sports? RANDOM PARTICIPANTS! The teams are all preformed so of course they won’t swap people over to make things even. If you go into ranked with a premade team or group similar to how “real” sports do then guess what? They won’t change things around at all. But no, it just grabs 12 random people and throws them in a lobby, splitting them as evenly as possible.

Get over yourself.

Second.

MMR is extremely frustrating.

It does give you the warm tinglies when that shiny token gets shinnier.

I’d rather go in and have an assurance that my games will be as close to even as possible and thus competitive matches (even if It means losing a few) than be randomly given an easier time to that shiny new token.

Only 800 higher? This account is Silver/Gold, my alt is now at 3487 SR, that almost 1500 SR difference…

Haven’t you said that your son also plays on one of them?

Yeah, hes reached masters now, I only play my alt when im off work for a couple days, and actually warmed up!

I just made an alt a few weeks ago but since I’ve been playing less lately with work (even then only to level it) it’s only just now hitting level 12. We’ll see where it places.

I placed mid plat, climbed to high diamond, and am in reach of Masters now. Good luck with your alt!

Thet are not good in matchmaker maybe convert this to online dating then matchmaking is more fun.
