Y’all were all disgusted by Sigma’s tootsies when he came out but Doom has his toes on display in like 80% of his skins. Nobody cares about his piggies tho, where’s the justice?
Doomfist is not old and creepy. Too easy.
It’s because of the backstory of Sig being in a mental hospital and the stigma and whatever
not just the feets showin
Doom shows more than just feet. He’s bare chested half the time. Sigma on the other hand is completely covered except for his toes. That’s creepy.
The people that were mad at Sigma’s feet are crazier than him
People used to have a problem with it on Doomfist’s release.
Tootsies sound really cute, but when you look at those long monsters it’s something else.
It’s like comparing someone at the beach to someone walking around town with no shoes on. And it just so happens that the person walking around town has very big feet.
Depending on where you live, this is a very common occurance. Heck I’m 2 hours from the beach and I don’t put on actual shoes unless I’m doing yardwork or it’s cold outside.
Sigma is not spelled with a “t.”
The stigma surrounding mental illness that comes, in part, from depictions of mental illness in media. One of the developers explained that they wanted it to look like he had just come from being institutionalized.
Thanks for your feedbacks! We decided to keep the feet bare to sell the ‘asylum’ look a bit more; in many institutions, patients are not allowed to have shoes because they might cause harm with the laces. While Sigma isnt neccisarily in danger of that, we felt that having no shoes helped draw that connection. I also had iterations of him with shoes on, and it made him alot more generic, so in the end we decided to leave him barefeet. That’s just what the reasoning internally was though, I’m sure we’ll be making skins with shoes on him in the future!
no but Stigma is… lol
I’ll be legit mad if they don’t have a “socks with sandals” skin for Sigma this summer.
Stigma is not a proper noun, silly.
What?! Sigma is literally the nicest hero in Overwatch.
Cause like he says: “Da feet makes me stronger” :>
I dont like doom in general, and when i in fact play him, i have skin where he have full shoes on.
There is no skin where he is fully no shoes guy. They are like sandals at least on him
… And that is why he is bad.
Designer 1 - Ooooh let’s make yet another mad doctor. This one is actually mentally ill and we will hammer this hard in our sprays and first animation!
Designer 2 - Soooo, let’s give him a creepy look, animations and interactions? Maybe some janky movements?
Designer 1 - Nah, let’s just make him a nice, polite, old man that is forgetful sometimes. Toes out though. That’s important.
Ok, getting on topic: it is mostly because of the stigma behind mental illness, mostly.
They could have said “well, he floats, he does not need them!!!” but they had to go with the “oh, he was in a mental hospital, that’s why”, when nowadays mental institutions usually give you footwear (laceless, like crocs and slippers) and usually treat people better then the “shoeless era” of mental hospitals (which, well… There is a reason people say those institutions are haunted, to put it lightly).
And I’d argue that because he floats it is more apparent than Doomfist’s (or Sombra’s or that Mercy skin that she has toes off.).
I mean, I don’t like looking at people’s feet in general, so yeah, I don’t like DF because of that. But also he’s half-naked and I don’t like that either. Honestly, just give them both some decent clothes.
There were people offended by the “mental health patient” stigma that Sigma allegedly portrayed, but those people failed to understand his character.
My problem with it was the decision to dress him in full body armor, then randomly remove his boots. It just doesn’t work aesthetically. I would expect a nature-themed or spiritual character be barefoot or wear foot wraps while wearing very light clothing. A barbaric or primal character might also be designed that way. But what they did with Sigma is like taking the Doomguy, randomly making him barefoot, then saying “oh, he’s meant to look like an asylum patient.” You would never guess that from looking at Sigma’s feet, so if that was really the reason they did it, then it’s completely nonsensical and they failed on multiple levels. If Sigma wasn’t an old male character and instead a young female one, they’d never get away with that terrible explanation. Everyone would assume it was a cover for a fetish.
