No surrender option in Overwatch2?

Hi, everyone.
I started Overwatch 2 about a month ago. I enjoy learning from good players, and I even like watching replays when someone plays better then me.
But today, I had an experience that made me feel really uncomfortable and honestly discouraged me from playing.
I ended up in a match against 4man streamer que. they were clearly better then us, which is fine, but intend of finishing the match they intentionally delayed the game.
and started camping our team.
I felt really off, so I checked out their stream and they were saying “we might hit 100 kills in this game lol”
It felt humiliating and incredibly unfair, so I did report them, but I’m not sure if it actually works.
Does Overwatch2 have surrender feature in this game?
I don’t want to leave the game I just want try my best.

Thanks for reading

A surrender option would just be abused. You lose the first fight and someone votes to surrender. Everyone else votes no so they are now butthurt and start throwing because everyone didn’t agree with them. They most likely would have left or started throwing anyways, but now they have an excuse for their actions.

The problem is that it’s often hard for most people to actually understand when surrendering is appropriate. Many people just lose the first fight or even the first round/point and just say “gg” and give up. In reality, many times a simple swap or even a good pick on the enemy is enough to turn the game in your favor. I cant even count the number of times we steamrolled the enemy and spawn camped them round 1 of a KOTH match, only to get obliterated round 2 and 3 because they were able to make some better swaps or take better advantage of the maps on those points.

The player base is absolutely not good enough to not abuse a surrender option, and as Madcap said, they’d just get all mad that people didn’t vote to surrender with them and then just start throwing and crying.

You can report for griefing. Not sure why your team would keep going out just to die though. If you keep giving them the kills they’ll just stall it longer, everyone should’ve sat in spawn.

One thing that you may have noticed (or maybe not) is that it’s often possible to come back from what might at first look like an almost-certain defeat in this game.

Enemy has a 3:30 time bank and you have a 1:00 time bank? Still winnable.

A ‘surrender’ button would be kind of bad because all it does is remove the very real chance of winning and replace it with a guaranteed loss. If you really want that, there’s already a button for that: the “Leave game” button.

Yup, just happened on the last game I played today. Enemy DPS pulled a 180 after round 1 and we couldn’t poke a head out without losing a teammate.

I never surrender in Mahvel and I am mad that they changed it to make surrendering easier, but in this game? I would surrender all the time.

You must have been living in the most peaceful alternate reality to not have read warnings about this game.

bait post, this game is not getting new players at all

I can’t stand defense maps and often leave the match right after hero selection, so my team has time to pick another DPS. But if I’ve already locked in and decided to play, then I give it my all, even if it’s clear from the start that we have zero chance of winning. I just play for myself at that point, even if I’m the only one trying, just to ruin the enemy team’s easy win at any cost.

Is there a reason why almost every post I read from you these days is mentioning rivals?

I really don’t need a surrender option in a game where matches last like 15 minutes and stomps last like 5.

While your case is of course unfortunate, it’s too rare to justify a surrender option imo. And to answer: yeah there is none. If that happens, you’re screwed. You could leave, but that might hurt you later if you have internet issues or similar.

Sorry you had that happen.

Matches are to short to really need one, at the long end it’s can be 10 minutes. But most are like between 3~5.

You can just leave a match if need be, take a minute or three break. And keep playing.

It’s because Mahvel is just so freaking peak and I wish Overwatch was more like Rivals with every fiber of my being. I cannot wait for whatever the OW developers started cooking in response to the game. That should be coming out relatively soon-ish. Maybe the season after Aqua we will start hearing about it? That would be so hype.

Eh… you’ve described what pretty much already happens for dozen of other reasons anyways. Unhappy with the hero being banned = throw. Unhappy with someone not playing the expected hero = throw. Unhappy with someone not in comms = throw. Unhappy with someone not having “required” KDR = throw. Continue per imagination.

Those who throw don’t need a reason to justify anything, they have plenty of those already. Half if not more matches are decided before they even begin, in the preps phase.

That’s not really an issue in Rocket league, a competitive team based game as well.

If it’s so peak, why is it under 1/4 of the playerbase of January already? But either way, it’s the overwatch forums. You pretty much talk about rivals more than ow at this point. Isn’t there a Reddit or forum or something for you to talk to others about rivals?

People are stupid and do not understand what they want.

Only to directly compare the two. I do not just randomly talk about my day in Mahvel or something. It’s always relatively relevant to the topic. In this case, I want Overwatch to adopt the surrender system from that game. It would improve the experience.

It’s just not the same, Conflagration. I prefer talking to you even when you dislike me compared to Mahvel players. Overwatch has the better community. To you, I am just an annoying troll. But to me, you are someone that can always provide me with a smile. :flushed:

why exactly should it have this dumb feature

I think the surrender option is a good idea and i think there are a few benefits:

  • Reduces toxicity somewhat
  • A way out of an unbeatable / rolled games
  • Saves everyone’s time - A fast surrender lets both teams queue again instead of inflating match length with meaningless kills.
  • Creates a good penalty-free exit - A vote is better than silent or rage quitting, or trolling, and it gives Blizzard data to analyze.

A way to implement it:

  • Unlock after X-minutes or one full objective - (so teams get at least a few good real fights).
  • Voting team loses
  • 4/5 (or 80 %) yes votes required; abstains count as no .

Having a surrender option just gives both teams an honest way out when it’s clear the match is already decided, minimizes toxicity, a way out of a stomp, and lets everyone quickly move on to better games.
