I played it first day and still have it installed. It’s a good game. Was it better than Smash Bros for game of the year though?
The Steam refund policy is a blessing. It has saved me from several mistake purchases.

Elden Ring had a lot of problems but a handful of recycled models and enemies aren’t one of them. It’s real weird how people will latch on to this being a problem but not the fact that some bosses are recycled over eight times. Oh no, they reused the same blob enemy from Dark Souls 2 (1?) but don’t you dare point out the field dragon boss they reuse something like 11 times.
You’re not obligated to put up with the story if you don’t care and if you do but you’re lazy there’s no shortage of youtube videos.
Elden Ring is the weakest From Soft title since the PS3 era and despite being a decent game it’s a mediocre offering from an otherwise good company. An average game experience is tolerated when it’s a different studio but FromSoft have been around for almost 30 years at this point and Elden Ring demonstrated they took a lot of bad lessons from other developers.
the only toxic stuff i found was the afk rune farmers i spend month hunting them, but even so, most of them were very chill guys. some of them never actually played a souls game before. the toxic ones were the guys ganking, when they get out played they always get salty but nothing out of the ordinary, not to levels of toxicity i have found in OW2
People copy Fromsoft more than they copy others. The recent store page ad for ARK 2 literally says “Souls like combat”. This will continue for a while now that they see people like it.
Wouldn’t it make more sense for 5 to be average and then judge things based on whether its worth more or less than 5? That’s how I do it since it makes it simply to explain how much I like things.
Five is the line, 10 is the max, 0 is literally so far under the line that its astonishing.
Perhaps this is controversial, but I believe that title goes to the original Demon Souls. It seemed like worse dark souls to me, but I’ve only watched it and read about it. Never had a PS3 to play it and now that I do, I feel like I should get the PS4 version instead.
Point is, take my opinion with a bucket of salt.

Demon Souls was also a first-of-concept and first-of-it’s-kind game. The term isn’t ‘bad’ so much as ‘dated.’ A lot of it’s flaws are less unforgivable and more idiosyncratic.
Nah, I’m saying that Elden Ring copied the open world idea from Breath of the Wild and then almost 1:1 fudged gearing and character progression the same way BotW did. Except instead of soulless rupee rewards your reward for doing another copy-pasted catacomb is a summon or a spell item you will never, ever use.

but it is not the same as BotW, to me it is better, your weapons never breaks for example. you dont have to wait until the god damn rain stops to climb lmao, BotW made me hate rain so much. Plus the challenge is much better. I like BotW, i bought it as a gift for my birthday, but the boss fights were really easy. They should make another Twilight Princess but with a much harder difficulty.
Would’ve been perfect, if poise was fixed, and there wasn’t a massive amount of input reading enemies. Every npc fight felt like BS Maldron.
the fixed poise in the last couple of patches even in the most recent one they tune up poise more. they just added a pvp arena in limgrave, caelid and lyndell too. and they have been fixing and balancing stuff for pvp too, contrary to the sorry excuse of a patches blizzard has been putting on for OW2

Played for four of the endings on my main character.
Played one more ending on a pure mage (malenia was agony on a pure min maxed mage leveled only for pvp purposes).
Never played for the sixth ending though. Might head back and do that soon on a dragon paladin leveled for the 120 pvp range.
Wait, I read a huge patch notes list like a month or two ago that rebalanced like all abilities and magic. I didn’t know about the pvp arenas though. Did they open up those colosseum structures or something? When I was playing, the best place for duelling was the big platform outside the academy.
The game of the year was deserved by Horizon Forbidden west, not Elden ring…
