I gave OW2 a 1/5 on Xbox store. I got to level 226 thinking it would carry over and realized how much time I wasted three days ago. I still play because it’s free and I don’t need gamepass but they could of told us.
agree, the bosses fight are fun, especially the… what was her name again? Something started with an M, truly an unforgettable moment.

I never play souls game before, only Sekiro and Elden Ring, I can see why it deserves the award, but I can also see why it’s not made for everyone.

toxic fanbase? nah dude, i have to stop you right there, the community is actually good i have found more toxicity in OW2 than other games even the fighting ones, OW2 is just crazy, you got people that get offended by everything (even by the ‘EZ’ word or doing the hello emote after a kill ffs lmao) and you give to them the ability to false report in mass. So people can get suspended with this arbitrary reports cause the suspensions and bans are automated, they aren’t review it by a human being. Now, in the other hand, ofc you also have very toxic players too. This is the only game where i was told to kill myself or that they hope my mother gets cancer. So TL:DR the game enviroment that Blizzard designed for OW2 is one where the toxicity is the main stuff to get out of people tbh.

i may make myself play that game one day but yea i was never a fan of the dark souls franchise. the first game i thought was a gimmick about being “hardcore” and wow look at me im playing a hard game shtick. maybe i should give the series a chance, maybe i would like the lore? it has that horror thing going which i was never a fan of but i may give it a shot
Elden Ring’s community is really nice. The PvP side starts to get toxic and we all know how toxic a game can be when the focus is on PvP. ahem Overwatch, LoL, Valorant, etc…
I enjoyed my time on the Elden Ring Reddit, discussing the lore, potential DLCs based off the lore, giving out tips/guides for those struggling, participating in cosplay/art/memes, and especially during the launch of Elden Ring, I helped in the discovery of a hidden weapon with other Elden Ring redditors.

I’d never even heard of Souls games when I played it for the first time and it’s the best single player game I’ve ever played.
Elden Ring is the only game that released in 2022 that deserved this honor. God of War and Horizon are just typical Sony interactive movies. All you do is watch 20 minute cutscenes then have 2 minutes of gameplay rinse and repeat. Yawn. If I wanted to watch a never ending movie I’d just watch Avatar or LOTR.

I was suprised god of war didnt win, it being a much more approachable title with a clear cut story. Usually the vote goes with that kind of option. Im happy to see elden ring take its rightful place though.

Its not for everyone. Though i feel all souls games have two staunch fanbases. “Jolly cooperaters” and “giant dad douchebag gankers”. They really only come in those two varieties usually.

In my experience, 7/10 IS average. Anything actually being rated 5/10 is awful or did something to get review bombed.
God of War was a great game. I wanted to add that caveat before I say this. Elden Ring feels significantly more polished and despite being longer never feels longer. Meanwhile God of War at times feels padded and you can do entire sections and wonder how did what I just did contribute to the story in any way?

For me I don’t really care about game/music/movie awards and stuff like that because it’s just all a popularity contest
nobody gonna tell me whether or not something is better because I prefer to make my own choice, I also don’t go by reviews for the same reason, I watch the trailer, if I enjoy what I see I’ll get it, if it ends up being bad I will refund it within the -2 hour/2 week window hahaha.
