Did you ever consider it’s because maps are designed explicitly around snipers?
They try to make maps that favor different character types, and that includes snipers. However, since map design is a big part of what keeps them in check, making maps that favor them isn’t a good thing.
Notice how she’s only a problem on those sniper favored maps. Notice also how King’s Row is the common favorite map. Reason likely being, it’s designed around every type of character instead of favoring one archetype.
Map design is important because that’s the biggest influence on gameplay. If a character has an infinite range, guarenteed kill homing shot but it only does damage if it goes a long sustance first, then on any map where there is no long distance it can travel then that character would be useless.
Marvel rivals kinda has the “everyone is OP” thing going on.
Most of the characters feel strong. But the abilities allows some good and fun interactions and the game genuinely does a good job of capturing the “fantasy” of most of the heroes.
It’s free - and worth every penny. Download it and give it a try for 5-10~ hours. It has flaws, but a lot of charm as well. It’s IMO been a far less frustrating environment than overwatch while capturing that “hero feel”.
Installing it rn though bc i’m not looking forward to another season of Widow Hell, hopefully this can tide me over until the 6v6 test or OW Classic Moth Meta.
Widowmaker is overpowered because she has an extremely long range one shot with no cooldown.
That’s it, that’s the whole argument. There is nothing else to it, no further points, no in depth reasons, just straight up “she’s overpowered because”
If you ever wonder why they haven’t nerfed or reworked her, that’s why. The argument against her is as shallow as a puddle.
Some maps are better for her than others. She’s still bad though. Bottom tier character in a game where Hela and Hawkeye are much better snipers and flankers can easily farm you for kills.
That is one argument and it’s a valid one. Long-range oneshots on a primary fire is an unhealthy design for a hero shooter based around maps with long open sightlines, 5v5 teamfights, and open objectives. The maps have to be fundamentally changed so that she is less oppressive. Notice how that argument has nothing to do with “she’s overpowered” and everything to do with “her design is unhealthy”. Your strawman is just wrong.
The other good argument is how she’s dictated the professional/top 500 meta a majority of the time since the game came out. She’s not only an unhealthy design from a “fun and interaction” perspective, but from an objective balance perspective for a large part of the game’s runtime.
Oh wow and that’s sooooo significant. Definitely will solve the problem of the 95% uptime skill-less one-shot with 0 cost or cooldown by decreasing her uptime by 1%.
Your stance on widow. You’ve been liking all of WamBam’s posts (and your opinions seem to align based on what i’ve seen from you on this forum) so I assume you agree with them, but given how they’ve been proven incorrect so many times over in this thread and so many others I thought i’d be nice and throw you a bone because maybe you didn’t realize just how unhinged and incompetent they were. Call it a chance at redemption, if you will.
