Came back from a 2 year break from the game and noticed no one is talking in Comp anymore? Or is it just because of the rank I’m at? Placed Diamond 4. Do people not use VC as much these days?

there was automated mod that used punished voice comms
Oh no, no one says anything as accounts are being punished with the player not doing saying anything deemed punishable. They made the whole report system 100% automated with NO human discretion on punishments. Also they have replaced the CS people with AI so appeals are met with a copy/paste response.

Not worth it risking a silence or ban
People got banned left and right. So to not get banned people left VC
after almost 10 years of toxicity, slurs, bigotry, and edgy manchildren, I just have no interest in joining VC anymore
Nothing to do with bans, I have had the same account for many years regularly talk and sometimes get into arguments because people are being plebs
If people are being banned automatically in VC it’s probably because they deserve it lol
If you talk first, more often than not people will join in in my experience

It is not a mystery, it is clear, accounts get flagged for wtv reason and you get rigged games over and over.

tbh this game is too chaotic and tilting to be joining vc for fun unless you’re duoing with your friend. We also have a ping system now, which further reduces the requirement to do callouts in voice chat. In other games like Valorant, voice chat is almost mandatory because it gives you substantial tactical advantage. Call outs I feel like aren’t as mandatory in Overwatch, at least not until you get to high elo.
I thought a silence was the only type of ban you can get from using comms. That’s crazy if they can delete your entire account for it. Not too surprising though coming from a woke company promoting censorship.
Silence is punishment number 1.
After that it’s time suspensions (up to 30 days). Then boom, if you’re unable to learn your lesson, account gone.

I used vc in ow2 for about 2 months before permanently turning it off. THere were only a few stereotypes that used it, 11 year olds that talk entirely too loudly, people with perpetual vacuum cleaners, dogs, kids, dump truck back up alarms going off in their mic, people who join VC to tell everyone else the team is losing but it isn’t their fault and 1-3% of the time you get productive VC chat that helps the team win the game. I seem to remember the final straw was a negative ratio reaper blaming heals while 5v1ing with like 3x death count everyone else on the team.
