Please explain. I am always ready for new information to build my understanding of a situation.
This really depends on how the game works. Some are more server side with your computer sending what it thinks to the server and then the server “figures out” what happens and some give more weight to the client to figure things out, but generally the server is the final say and is the only one getting ALL of the information. You get a lot of information on what to display, but you’re not usually getting everything the server does.
That is my basic understanding of the process though. Mostly through discussions with developers. I don’t actually do the work myself but I’m interested in the processes.
I would call it a “generous estimate” really. I would LOVE to blame more than that on outside factors beyond my lack of talent or skill, and at the end of the day I do believe most people are horrible things, so it’s probably higher, but I’m going to say that people who rely on cheating to make their difference exclusively and the things people blame on “cheating” are wildly different statistics.
The cheats you’re talking about seem like far more investment monetarily and effort wise than most would put into it though. I know it’s “simple” but it’s still installing a device or subscribing to a service (not to mention the TRUST you need to route everything you do through some box somewhere) and as someone who used to install and fix tech stuff for people… that’s just not something a lot of people are up for. It seems like a LOT just to be slightly better than you would be otherwise.
Like I said… cheating is a MASSIVE industry, I get that and I know it’s not “wallhax.exe” anymore, heck we have controllers with built in cheats now, but I still don’t think we’re anywhere near every game.
and again… the part I have a problem with is the idea they’re even listening to the forum at ALL let alone about deciding NOT to beef up their anti-cheat measures because some supposed “no cheats exist” group says anything.
Hey man, a bit off topic but i worked mall security when i was in Uni and people would turn in wallets with hundreds of dollars and really expensive items to the lost and found and the owners would show up and ask about them and when I give them back the item they would always be shocked and say they could not believe someone was so honest that they would turn in something so valuable but it happened all the time. Most people are good people no matter what news/social media want us to think. Don’t give up on humanity <3
I gather the exceptions around me as much as I can, but being the loser time after time for expecting better out of people is a hard lesson I earned personally, I didn’t have the luxury of “falling” for media.
Good and trustworthy people are a rarity and you need to treat them as such in every way.
I appreciate the attempt though… for what it’s worth.
This is not the proper way of pointing out who you think is cheating. It’s possible to get your own account actioned. At the very least it’ll shut down your thread or have your post deleted.
Step-by-step instructions for the proper way is
post the replay code
state the role and if it’s red team or blue team (don’t state the team if it’s role queue and the role is Tank. Just say “Tank”. DO NOT SAY THE NAME/TAG OF THE PLAYER
State what you’re suspicious of and ASK if anyone else noticed anything fishy. Don’t sit there tossing accusations, because often times on these forums, players don’t really know what they are talking about anyway.
I’m sorry that you had to go through that. It seems you have had a bit of an unlucky streak with people but the few are not the many. My heart goes out to you and I hope one day you get the chance to get away from those people who do not treat you well and get a chance to see how good people can be. Any who, i am off to bed, sorry for derailing the conversation. Have a good night
There’s not many, but these people do exist, lol. They do it because they can, because they think everyone else is, because they think they have to to “equalize the play field,” to troll people because they’re sadists, because they don’t care anyway, because they don’t have any faith in themselves to actually getting better at the game. Combination of any of this, probably.
Wow thank you for this discourse. I’ve first handed experienced the receiving end of what it looks like to face these DMA cheaters. Some really wild stuff, like people who dodge nearly every projectile you throw at them in quite possibly the weirdest display of movement you could ever see. Really interesting stuff. I still have hope they will meet their end someday and we can really play a fair game. One day.
Do I know that people cheat in QP? Yes. Can I tell who it is? Not usually, no. People can have good and terrible games. I got a triple kill as Kiriko while the enemies were almost at full health, and I admit that was luck with no shame. I can’t do that normally. Maybe that’s the wrong word. I can’t do that consistently.
All this drama and people still don’t leave the game in massive droves…
Really if you hate the game why play it at all?
It’s like people watching that awful Velma show and just complain about every episode, This isn’t about the state of the game, You just like being mad and complaining, It’s like some kind of mental rush.
At least Blizzard should post the Defense Matrix placebo report this week because I am seriously considering switching to Valorant. I tried to have a good time with friends tonight at OW2 but I can assure 1/4 of the games had a suspicious crouch-tapping aim god with extreme lack of game sense.
If you take a brief browse over YT about cheaters, looks like the trending hot topic is DMA going mainstream around $130.00 and how to become the next Shroud-like streamer.
I got called a hacker playing widow because i headshot’ed a stealth sombra, wasn’t even aiming at the sombra was aiming at the orisa, she was just dumb enough to run in between the line of fire, the mcree thing… if he is lucky to hit you to fine you those other 2 shots are not sus, not to mention any voice lines sombra says gives away your location with the exception of elevation, if there isn’t an upstairs or downstairs i know where you are roughly.
For the last few days, I’ve gotten the “thank you for reporting, action has been taken” when logging in. I don’t file many reports, and I try to be very, very careful about the ones I do.
For me to notice and feel comfortable reporting, it has to be pretty blatant - and there doesn’t seem to be any particular shortage of new, endorsement level 1 DPSers running around playing like hell on wheels in ways that make no sense.
I don’t encounter that level of flagrancy in every game, but it isn’t unusual - enough that I run into several a week.
And I really need to stress that I am noticing only the really blatant cheaters. Just having decent aim or better aim than me wouldn’t even register as being unusual - if I think there is something fishy, I’ll check the replay first, and I’m not going to go through the time and effort to do that without some compelling reason.
From my experience, cheating and smurfing seem to be pretty common - it seems worse this season than last, and it was pretty awful last season. That’s not a remotely scientific assessment and I feel pretty comfortable that awful matchmaking and terrible pings cover a multitude of sins, but various forms of conspicuous cheating don’t seem to be rare and are a real problem. What the actual figures might be, I have no idea, but if someone were to claim 15-20%, it wouldn’t feel that outrageous, and even if the real number was something like 10%, that would still be an awful lot of players having screwed up game experiences.
