What about ults that team wipe? Instantly negating all that healing the supports did. And tanking the tanks did. Oh no, someone played a character who’s ult WASN’T based about killing. Let’s freak out and get rid of the ult instead using our head and dealing with a simple problem. Ult economy people - it’s a thing. Learn to manage it. And of course being able to bring people back as an ult made her unique. But let’s take away that too because making more characters similar and bland is healthy for the game.
Nope.
15 Characters.
Well yeah. I made this thread to specifically address a forum thing I saw though and was speaking moreso about the forums. A lot of the stuff on the forums is overblown here, it isn’t just Mercy. I remember seeing them kind of laugh off forum Brigitte even though they obviously agreed she needed a change.
The reason it is so common is because of a couple of people in particular, but also because a lot of people find Mercy pretty dull. I know not everyone feels the same but if isn’t the majority, given how sustained and volume of complaints its gotta be quite a pretty at least a fairly large minority.
This is the place they should be leaving feedback though until they feel they have been heard. Speaking as someone who has done work with community managers in the past, the way this has been handled by blizz is atrocious. They didn’t need to cave or change her, nothing wrong with them by their design. But they should have done something to address specific complaints in a way that shows they were listening to the actual substance of the feedback. And until they do and put that nail in the coffin, I don’t think it will stop because of how many people dislike her current state.
Regardless, myself personally, I tossed her to the side for the most part for Sombra a long time ago. And I’m glad. I do think some of them should stop playing her. The lower she crashes the more likely she is to get a favorable change. And the less they will be pouring salt into their own wound.
Sure. There are unreasonable and loud people in any group of forum posters. It’s not a reason to denigrate them as a group.
The point of doing it was to try and bait enemy ults and go for a bigger rez than you would as a tempo. It was also by far the easiest way to unlock that trophy.
You only needed 4 people and it only needed to happen once. If it was a regular part of their gameplay, they would have likely gotten the trophy. Many heroes that had much lower usages rates got their trophies, even though they are harder than just wait around for people to die and press Q.
60 hps works better on tanks, which makes Mercy/Zen work better as a duo. This loss of synergy is actually her biggest dealbreaker when it comes to her, imo.
Two people can make the same thread with the same content and one can get like 20 views and another get a ton. It just depends on things like the title, time of day, how interesting, etc.
I don’t agree on a lot of things they say, actually. I do agree that I would prefer rez remain part of her kit, and that I preferred mass rez to valk. Beyond that though, there are plenty of disagreements. One thing I don’t agree with them on is that Valkyrie is balanced. I actually think it’s both OP and boring. And I have gotten into a few arguments over that.
I played since launch and a lot of people didn’t really post that much about it until the perfect storm happened: the sr exploit, the invulnerability buff, and a couple of viral videos. At that point things really exploded. At this point, seeing the writing on the wall, I suggested she get an ability similar to Valk, a range restriction, require los, and to lose the invulnerability iirc. In my mind this would create counterplay. It was one of the most downvoted posts I have ever made on any forum.
So I do get some amusement at seeing it suggested sometimes now.
Anyway, the controversy definitely caused some people to take sides that I don’t think really cared one way or another. I also think it made it more popular to try and start to pickup steam. The devs clearly did not like it.
Well yeah. But it became so passionate I think, in part, because she was popular. The devs I think said she was the most used hero at the time (though ironically NOT in Diamond+). This popularity is another big reason I don’t buy that everyone was doing it even though none of them got the trophy. It would lead to confirmation bias out the wazoo. Which actually is one of the reasons I even looked up the trophy stats back then in the first place. I wanted to see if certain things were as popular in reality as in my head.
Some were, some were not. I wish I could find that thread I carefully jotted down all of them on my cellphone. It took a while.
Because it’s good to have a mix. You want to primarily look at feedback from your elite players, but you also don’t want to blind yourself to stuff that is tournament only issues caused purely by format. And beyond that, if the game isn’t fun for the casuals they aren’t gonna buy your skins or watch your streamers/pros.
It is a difficult balancing act. But it is an important one. And they have dropped the ball a bit on that latter part.
That’s good. But I will believe it when I see it. I strongly get the feeling we aren’t done with Brig nerfs and that her fall is gonna cause a chain reaction. But that is just my hunch. I hope that they aren’t just saying that because last time they said it was just before they hit us with the Mercy rework and the D.va rework at the same time. We shall see. I really hope it’s true.
I don’t think they will because those big hero moments is what a lot of us love about the game and she just doesn’t feel that way even if she is objectively in a better spot. Gamers will tolerate a lot, but uninteresting gameplay is always one that gets endless complaints.
Yeah and they don’t exactly have the best rep for PR. I wish they’d just hire someone. Lol
Anyway sorry for the novel, lol.
ITT:
It was already removed from the game; it’s on you to prove why it should be back, not on everyone else to prove why you are wrong. All of your majority/minority comments are based on nothing but your imagination.
Stop beating a dead horse already, her Ult was OP, so nice to play for Mercy players, awefull for non Mercy players, majority won, end… Ho! And yeah, hide and rez WAS a thing… I played it so much that i can tell you it was.
nah it’s alright, I see what you’re saying now with a bit less salt, I mean I hate that we had to fill paragraphs upon paragraphs of opinions but I’ve gotten to understand your point much better even though a lot of what I said still stands, It’s a good exercise to try and find middle grounds
I do agree that this is a place for feedback and that devs do a bad job addressing stuff directly, I guess mostly trying to avoid backlash which in hindsight is just a bad idea
I’m not gonna tell you to enjoy her by force but I do want to state that I do enjoy her current playstyle and I didn’t before, I hated mass rez with a passion and hated insta double rez valk, that is not to say I would stop playing Mercy if they brought back mass rez but I’d be pretty upset unless they made several changes with it
As for big hero moments I, personally, feel more of a hero with Mercy than with any other character, although I admit she doesn’t have a single burst of shine she does however feel more consistently heroic in my hands, more like instead of a big jumpy moment I have a good steady run when I pick her? and almost every healer feels like that tbh but I understand that is my personal take and wouldn’t push it onto anyone
So to conclude this now, excuse if i came off rude or hostile, It was hardly my intention though in all honesty my intention wasn’t to have a conversation either and more to sneer at your opening post but I’m glad we got here
This thread is not about that.
Nope. I pointed to evidence. You are welcome to disagree that evidence is sufficient but that doesn’t make it imaginary.
Just reading the title I thought this was a Reaper main post.
It’s not that they only did it. It’s that they could do it and be rewarded is the main issue I think.
Yeah, I’m glad we reached this point as well. Ironically talking it out with you probably means you get my point better than others who only read the title or opening line. Consider negativity to be water under the bridge.
Anyway I get what you’re saying about consistently a hero, because I used to feel that way about healers in general too. But I have mostly mained support heros for so many years now. I have been playing games since I was a really little girl in the 90s, and was nearly always support in multiplayer games that had them.
But more recently I play dps more often just because I find it a bit easier, and because I don’t really feel it as much with just like sustained good healing anymore. I like the flashier stuff that distinguishes the various ones more distinctly because just good at sustain feels kind of flat now.
So when Mercy lost that big moment, to me, and i totally get why others may feel differently, she lost that heroic feel to her. It’s like she’s still good at backing up everyone else’s moment, but where is her big time to shine? Ya know? So that’s kind of why I liked mass rez. I am not die hard committed that it needs to come back or anything. I’d take any version of her that made her feel like a bamf if only for a moment.
I also come from a heavy mmo background though. So the idea of killing the healer first or seeing someone rezzed never bothered me. I see why it bothers others. It just did not bother me.
Yeah ok sure buddy…
Well if the enemy team used two or more ults that u could counter with one(res) and you didn’t hide, you weren’t playing her properly.
You mean the effort of combining q buttons? Then Mercy would go to all the effort of pressing her q, then more q’s would fly around.
And if you mean the times where Widow hits shots or something, well, Mercy can still undo that, even if it is one person if your team can kill someone too it can make a difference.
Cough
Maybe not every single Mercy main did this, but the majority certainly did and the ones who didn’t were heavily encouraged to as it was the way to play Mercy.
Sorry went to bed not long after this post yesterday. I won’t bother with the initial points because they are hypocritical. “It did happen but I didn’t hate it. Also it was a problem!”. Pick a stance, either it was not a problem (the truth) or it was a problem (the lie). The mercy players that “like” her now are more than likely just dedicated DPS players that want to make sure she stays buried and have taken the mantle to spread the idea that she is fine when she isn’t. I would love to think that’s crazy thinking, but the DPS have shown to be willing to do anything to get the changes they want. (a great example being the #deletebrig movement) No true Mercy player is ok with her current state. You are either for a Mercy that does not suck or you are against it. It’s clear where the two of us stand.
That and u have to breath on her and she will die. I think you get abuse for no Rez and abuse for dieing during Rez.
Basically she’s pretty damn useless. Such a sorry state. I do miss mercy at her peak… the other healers have come to the forfront but they just have a presence or appeal as mercy
Is that why there is still extensive guides to Mercy hiding spots on youtube and reddit to this day?
That’s a grossly immature notion.
Not “picking a side” because that’s what has made such a massive rift in the community. I’m neutral and seeing both sides. This whole “You either hate her because you’re a Mercy player or like her because you’re a delicate DPS main” stance is the reason we can’t have nice, productive discussions. It’s the reason these ridiculous memes exist about both sides.
It’s entirely possible for me - and…surprise, I’m doing it - to play and like Mercy but enjoy her as she is. Because her enjoyment is NOT objective, and if you ever try to push it as that, you can’t be made at anyone writing you off immediately.
Shame on you for trying to put me in a box like that. I like Mercy, want her balanced, find her fun, but can acknowledge why other people can’t/don’t. If you don’t see the other side of your stance, then that’s selfish and sad.
Show me the evidence. And then show Blizzard. Because clearly it happened enough from them to do something didn’t it?
^the classic mercy player response
you think Jeff would say there’s a bad habit of mercy players doing this when in fact only a few were doing this? No. Majority of mercy players were hiding and asking the team to die so she can rez them and Jeff called it out.
