No Chun-Li Mei?

Chun-Li is an icon for being the first popular, non-slim female action hero in gaming. In a time when the norm was slender body with large bust, Chun-Li broke the mold. Mei 100% would not exist in her current form without Chun-Li’s inspiration. Paying respect to that inspiration by giving her the Chun-Li skin seems like such a painfully obvious decision - even before considering that they’re both Chinese.

I get that this dev prides itself on not making the obvious cosmetic decisions, and sometimes I think that works well, but it’s also important to recognize when the obvious decision may be obvious for good reason. You didn’t just drop the ball with this one. You threw it into the ocean and soiled yourselves.

I dunno, Juno Kick and Chun-Li signature kick work pretty well. I always thought Chun-Li had a typical anime fighter frame but with exaggerated legs and muscle. Mei is a little…less muscular.

With a more average bust and large hips? What?
That’s not breaking the mold, that’s just a different mold.

Also, an emote is doing the kick (I think) . Your immersion doesn’t have to die because Juno is more slim. Promise.

If you watch the trailer and see Juno Chun li doing the spinning bird kick you’ll understand.

Can you imagine Mei doing a spinning bird kick better than Juno?

Tell me you didn’t play games in 1991 without telling me you didn’t play games in 1991. It wasn’t a different mold in gaming at the time…until Chun-Li invented it.

I was a kid and it did nothing for me. I played Blanca. He finds his gf at the end of the game. Does backflips when he wins.

Well, she’s not here. Someone else wears the boots. And Mei isn’t what you’d call “physical”, she’s a scientist even.

Are you trying to say you look at Mei and “that’s a Chun-Li build?” You’d disrespect her like that?

So far what i’m getting from this is that Mei is Chinese and built like a stuffy so you want her to be Chun-Li, and don’t like that Juno got it because she’s slimmer, has a signature kick, and is Vietnamese.

:joy::joy::joy: I mean that’s true. He did do backflips. What’s funny is that you thought it was his GF at the end, I thought it was his daughter and according to the internet it was his mother! I don’t know what to believe anymore.

No woman in the game is built like Chun-Li. I’d say Mei or JQ are the best fits, but Chun-Li’s outfits are too out of character for JQ. If we’re considering personality as well, then Juno is one of the worst fits imo. Chun-Li is a confident, roughly middle-aged woman with mastery of her skills. Juno is a teen whose personality is largely founded on inexperience and self-doubt. I’m not sure the devs typically consider personality for this type of thing though.

Wait…I forgot about Sojourn. She would’ve been a good fit too imo.

Mei and Junker Queen are on opposite ends of the spectrum. i think the choices are fine.

Classic Chun-Li isn’t even far off the stereotypical female build in games, she’s closer to that than she is to Mei’s build.

Queen’s the only character with legs to match but she is far too tall lol

Her waist is always slim. Her legs became more muscular over time.

And Chun has NEVER not been busty.

I hate to break it to you, PlumRaven, they do not care about Street Fighter. It’s just a cash grab. That Juri Kiriko made it too obvious for me. I wish they sort of pretended to care.

I don’t know what version of street fighter YOU played, but chun li has always been slim.

Mei is fat, just call it what it is.

And I don’t know why people care about that, like, ffs. Some people are just weird, lol. Fat girls gotta be represented too, I guess? Definitely don’t promote health or anything, stupid developers!

The truth is that Juno has a build much closer to Chun Li than Mei does. Juno is just a better fit in just about every way.

This is one of those awkward situations like what happened to D.Va in the Gundam Wing collab: since her MEKA isnt Humanoid-shaped, she got no collab despite being a human pilot inside a combat Mech (like Gundam Wing). Then theres Mei whos Chinese, Chung-Li is Chinese, easy collab right? Sadly not. Because of their different body types, Mei was not used for the seemingly-obvious match. Sometimes bodyform rules all in these collab events.
