Streamer mode shouldn’t be available to the general public… Idk if that’s some sort of hot take or what but streamer mode should only be available… for streamers. Ya know, what the mode is named after? And what it’s for?
It’s not for billy bob joel to hide his name.
And this is just a personal take of mine. I dislike streamer mode in any game. That sucks the personality out of games. I enjoy knowing the people I play against and with. I enjoy the sense of community. Social aspect is pretty much dead in overwatch because no one talks or else they can get falsely reported, and half the lobby is an auto generated name. Barely any difference between practicing against the highest difficulty A.I.
The people that have it on in my experience are people who consistently get flamed cos they’re known to be kinda trash
If I restart the game after the match, I can see the names and I understand why they’d wanna stay hidden lol. Nobody fw them in the region
I honestly don’t care about the streamer mode, people have their reasons I guess, but at times it feels like you’re playing with bots when most of the people in the lobby have them turned on. I get both sides
So because YOU like a sense of community… everyone needs to play along?
Sounds like you think a streamer has some sort of requirement beyond streaming. Cause “jim bob” is a streamer as well.
Also:
With this in mind, we will be restricting access to the Hide My Name features of Streamer Protect for those who don’t have the Unrelenting Hero challenge completed, which requires winning 1,750 games of Overwatch in any game mode.
Much like private profiles, people will argue it is not your business what their name is.
Soon we will be in lobbies where there will be no names or stats. And then companies can add bots in the game and say they have 8 billion concurrent users all day every day.
Not to mention, streamers aren’t special in any way. There shouldn’t be a way for them to hide anything.
I’d say people are finding some of it’s features useful outside of streaming. It sounds more like you’re being frustrated by it’s existence for some reason you’d probably be loathe to admit.
Which is bad… because you wanna … do what? Get familiar with people? Maybe they don’t want that?
I don’t mind private profiles atp. because even if I know what their profile is it won’t change much nor does it add anything / take away anything.
Streamer mode just straight up takes away the feeling of community because I don’t know who I’m playing with or against 90% of the time. Half the lobby is auto generated names related to overwatch.
Yes… hiding their name for no reason.
Again, the purpose of the feature is in the name. This is not some debatable point. Streamer mode is for streamers. Hence why all the features and settings are related to streaming. Hence why it’s called streamer mode.
I stated the reason quite clearly and specifically already. If it keeps existing cool, I’m simply stating my opinion.
That’s cool. They don’t need to ever speak or interact with anyone? lmao.
Considering it’s a feature you have to choose to enable, I’m gonna guess they have a reason.
You wanna be a pedant you can, but I use a lot of things that aren’t specifically spelled out in their name or titles for what I use them for.
This isn’t Fae magic where something is restricted by it’s name. A feature gets called something… then people use it.
Because you “like a sense of community” which is just as nebulous as someone using it simply to hide their name.
No one said they can’t use the feature. If people choose to use the feature that’s provided that’s cool for them.
I’m saying the feature shouldn’t exist outside of it’s intended audience. That is all. If you disagree cool! Move on because I’m not changing my mind on that. I’ve had this stance on streamer mode since it was in other games first for years now.
I don’t like it being used outside of the actual streamers.
So if you thought you’d voice this on the forums and maybe influence the people who can do something about it…
I am sorry to say that the only people who will read/hear you are us forum troglodytes. We who live here to kill time and argue amongst ourselves.
If you KNOW this and are still posting here, all I can ask is “then why bother saying anything if you’re not up for discussion?”.
OK.
I’ll just repeat anyone who opts in to streaming… is a streamer and there are literal thousands of them. So it’s possible all those people are streaming.
No… half my lobbies in most of my games are not streaming. And even if that were the case again… streamer mode is for streamers with large audiences. Jim bob joe with 4 viewers is not the main target for stream sniping.
Because the mode was designed for people to counteract stream sniping and being targetted. That’s the whole purpose of the mode.
Who do you think is more likely and averages more stream snipes. Flats with 2k viewers (i’m guessing i don’t watch anybody) or JimmyNeutron’sMom with 6 viewers…
So now we talk about intent which isn’t in the name and that’s valid now because it supports your personal interpretation.
Is jimmy less deserving of protection or being able to stream to his 6 viewers without someone disrupting his game using ill-gotten information via his stream or blizzID?
I can say that because this became a widespread problem for visible content creators (those with large audiences) is likely why blizzard bothered to implement it, but it doesn’t make it invalid for those with smaller audiences.
Did you know you can add people in game? If you want to be friends, they can be on your friendslist.
I don’t get what this community’s obsession is with feeling entitled to be up in everyone else’s business. I love streamer mode because I’m tired of people commenting on my IGN all the time. That, and I don’t need salty people following me around reporting me for playing sombra.
Streamer mode isn’t stopping you from having a sense of community. Do you even talk to any of the people you’re in game with, or do you just like to keep tabs on people? Cause this game isn’t known for making friends.
