Next Hero - Let us ADS

Could we get a hero who can Aim Down Sights (ADS) but doesn’t scope like ana or widow? Just looking down iron sights or maybe a red dot.

I know it’s super CoD-ish to ask for the ability to ADS, but I really enjoy being able to do it in shooters.

Something like this (it’s a CoD 2 video of Kar98k)

Bonus points of the new hero straight up uses a bolt action rifle like the Kar98 - CoD 2’s Kar98 was the best feeling to shoot of any gun in any game I’ve played so far. Maybe the DOOM dbl barrel shot gun can compare though.

edit: watching that montage is bringing back so many memories Ahhhhhhh loved that game

No, the kar98 is for PUBG and PUBG only

Doesn’t need to be the kar.

My computer can’t even run PUBG, but I doubt it feels anything like the kar98 in CoD 2 since the maps are much smaller.

I was joking about COD 2

So something like Viktor and Vivian from Paladins? Just play Paladins my dude :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, sorry haha!

I know Call of Duty gets a bad rap nowadays, but their early games through MW were pretty fantastic and I think it might be a fun throw back. Seems shooters that let you ADS have mostly fallen out of style with Quake, Fortnite, and OW. Though PUBG and ARMA do let you, I know.

I’ve never seen anything about paladins or played it. I don’t want to leave OW though, I love it! Just asking to spice up the heroes a bit with someone who can ADS that isn’t full sniper mode. Get a little more variety in there, ya know?

C’mon, nobody else wants this?

Paladins is a first-person shooter like overwatch but is considered the “Overwatch clone/ripoff” and isn’t nearly as popular. The game is free to play, but if you want all the characters and the future characters, you can buy them for I think $20. There is no hero switching, but there are character bans in comp and there are items and cards/loadouts to increase the gameplay which is more balanced than OW will ever be imo.

The game has a card system with items and loadouts to enhance your character’s playstyle or abilities. For example, one of the characters there is a support named Mal’Damba. There are 4 legendary cards (you can only choose one) that enhances one of your abilities or does something related to your abilities. The one I use turns his one (of two) healing abilities into a small damage ability that deals damage over time. One of the cards in the loadout is that whenever I heal someone with the ability, it heals me a small amount over time as well and I take reduced damage while someone is affected by it.

The characters I am talking about Viktor and Vivian, are both characters who use machine guns and have ADS. They are both DPS characters who are pretty strong. One of Viktor’s Legendary Cards has it so that while he is peering down his scopes, he deals 15% increased damage, remember you can only pick one Legendary Card and you cannot change it for the rest of the match.

Lastly, there are items to buy with credits during the match, items such as "Reduced cooldowns by 10/20/30% but cost more credits with each level. You can even buy items that reduce the healing the enemy takes when you shoot them.

That actually sounds pretty cool, I’ll have to check it out and see if my computer will run it. Thanks

From the standpoint of competitive gaming, I prefer a clear view around my aimpoint instead of having my character’s gun blocking half of my screen. Aiming down sights in graphically realistic military shooters really does add to the flavor of that type of game, and the slower movement while aiming provides an interesting game mechanic… but in Overwatch, scoped weapons provide the same interesting mechanics while still providing a clear view of the aimpoint.

What Overwatch needs isn’t necessarily a hero with a weapon like Paladins’ Viktor (Soldier is close enough already anway). What Overwatch is lacking, however, is a hero with a weapon scope and a fast fire rate.

I highly recommend it, even though it is considered an Overwatch rip-off, there are similarities between the characters but they are pretty different in gameplay and how they function.

At first glance you’ll say characters like Fernando, Drogoz, Skye, Sha Lin, and Bomb King are rip-offs of Reinhardt, Pharah, Sombra, Hanzo, and Junkrat.

But i’ll tell you here how they are much different.

Fernando - He is a tank with a giant shield, he has a charge ability like Rein yes, and a fireball ability like Rein, but he is not like rein at all. His ultimate prevents him and his team dying for the duration of the ultimate, his charge does not pin and one shot people, and his shield cannot be held up infinitely unless you pick the legendary card for it.

Drogoz - Yes he flies and shoots rockets, but he has an ability that shoots a ton of rockets at once, a fire spit ability that increases the damage the enemy recieves.

Skye - Yes she can stealth like Sombra, however she has poison bolts and a little mini crossbow thing on her wrist that deals damage, she has two stealth abilities and can’t hack.

Sha Lin - “The Hanzo rip-off” except he doesn’t have a storm arrow, kinda? He just stands still and shoots a ton of arrows and it can be cancelled if pressed again, he has an ability that lets him jump back into stealth and he has a stun ability that when they collide with the wall they are stunned for a short duration.

And lastly, Bomb King - This guy is an explosive freak, yes, except he’s a giant bomb? One of his abilities just stuns people, and you have to actually stick your bombs to the target and right click to blow it up.

This is a completely fair opinion. The hero could have the option to hip fire or ADS for more accurate or increased damage. But also there are many other heroes to choose from.

I disagree though about it taking too much screen space , OW already has some really big gun models that take up significant portions of the screen. Using ADS covers the lower portion, which in OW isn’t a huge drawback imo, I think vision is more heavily affected by Phrah’s rocket gun, for example.

Honestly, I really want a hero with a bolt action rifle that can ADS. maybe a dbl barrel shot gun for close range. (I know, super generic shooter COD, but not necessarily out of place in OW).

Again, it’s a mechanic that hasn’t been used yet in OW and could be a simple way to spice up hero choices in the future. Maybe Blizz agrees with you and doesn’t want to have any ADS to help distance it from military shooters.

I should point out that Ana has a bolt action rifle. It just happens to shoot darts instead of bullets and she doesn’t have the shotgun you mentioned. I think with her upcoming changes from the PTR she may better fit what you are looking for when she can’t be body blocked by allies so frequently.

Thanks man, definitely will check it out. Sounds like fun, esp if it’s free to try

Yeah, ana is tons of fun, I love her. If she didn’t have a scope on her rifle I would probably play her always. I just hate having a scope. Iron sights = <3

When I started playing the lack of ADS gave me some serious conniptions.

Now that I play other games it feels clunky to be forced to ADS. You know the games that make hip fire uselessly innacurate?

I prefer the Overwatch style, ADS levels of accuracy while hip firing.

New industry standard pls.

Yeah, it was the same way for me too. Took me forever to get used to not using ADS. I still prefer to ADS, but have gotten used to not being able to use it.

I kind of like the idea behind hip fire being less accurate or doing less damage while ADS being slower moving but more accurate and more dmg. Feels like there is a healthy trade off there.

I think games like OW are in a unique position of being able to use both mechanics, since they’re hero based. It’s totally fine for soldier to not need to ADS and have good accuracy, meanwhile it can make sense for a new hero to only be super accurate while ADS and less accurate without.

It’s a mechanic that does not NEED to be in the game, but it also isn’t necessarily out of place on a new hero

I mean the only negative aspect of having a hero that zooms like that is that a secondary fire ability is lost.

I personally prefer the variety in moveset, but it’s just my opinion

That’s true, but you can still use second weapons in place of second ability - like mercy swapping between staff and pistol, or torb shotty and hammer.

There is also plenty of room with abilities on Shift, E as well.

I’m not here with a complete hero design, but I don’t think it’s very restricting of a mechanic
