New Support Idea

Hey guys, so I had an idea for a new support and was looking for feedback or what you think.

An idea I had was another more offensive support. This support cannot heal at all (or very low, if possible idea was accepted), but they provide shields as their form of “heal”.

Health: I’m thinking 200HP with 100-150 of that being shields to fit their aesthetic of providing shields.

Ability: Shielded Pathogen
This ability cannot overheal, so it must be used wisely (will NOT exceed max health. Hog will not go over 600HP, for example. If he is missing 10 health, he will only receive 10 shields, not the full 150 effect). Provides 150 shields to first target. It could also transfer between targets, 3 total. When the shields expire on the target, anyone within X meters of this person will then receive shields at 50% strength of the last target. This ability will prioritize the next target based on lowest health percentage. It will jump until the ability is used again or the shields run out of charges from jumping to others. Ability will stop completely after 5 seconds if the shields are not depleted or jump to another target.

6-8 second CD?

Possible idea: heals for X HPS while shields are on the target? (Must be low HPS)

Ability: Leap of Faith
It will pull your ally to you with a vine-like whip (which can be used to pull people from grav, for example). Cannot be used while jumping or in any form of free fall (grav lifts you off the ground, so it can’t be used in it or jumping off a cliff). Must be facing target to use and it will pull them to the spot where the ability was activated (can’t use it and turn so they fall off a cliff, for example). Reduces target’s damage taken by 15% for 3 seconds after target lands to you.

X seconds cool down.

PLAYER AFFECTED MUST PRESS INTERACT TO ACCEPT THE PULL. When trying to be pulled, the edges of your screen will have a glowing green effect and the interact prompt will show. Whip will last for 3 seconds before snapping if interact is not pressed. Can be canceled by player being pulled if they press interact again during the pull.

Ultimate: Symbiosis
A large plant-like bubble will appear for X meters of distance, surrounding the support hero. Heroes within bubble distance will be affected, causing them to take 50% reduced damage and be immune to CC affects for X seconds.

Possible idea: during ultimate, Leap of Faith CD will be reset upon activation. Leap of Faith changed into Leap of Wrath. Player can now pull enemy targets into the center of the ultimate. CD reduced during ultimate to allow multiple pulls.

When in this ultimate, the support cannot move, attack or use any abilities other than Leap of Wrath (Faith is replaced during ultimate duration). If the support is killed during their ult, the ult is canceled, as it will be a channeling ult.

Attack: Parasitic Virus
An orb like spore looking thing that deals X damage over X second(s) to target hit (must be higher damage to compete with Zen). RoF will be lower to balance higher damage.

How does this sound?

I’ve created heroes that do shields before, but sadly, the community decided that support means healing. This sadly won’t gain enough traction.

The problem is shields ARE a form of healing. This character does not overheal, so it IS a form of burst healing. People need to get over the idea of the support MUST heal. It’s a SUPPORT class, not HEALER class.

You really need to be careful about abilities like this because it takes control from an ally. What if that ally didn’t want to be pulled? He/she will get upset. If you think about how upset people get with Mei walls just imagine how bad this would be.

Yes. Definitely, but it’s sadly not going to happen.

This is used to be life saving, pulling a target from danger. All abilities can be used incorrectly. This one would be no exception, but a well timed one can save their life.

Yes but normally when an ability is used incorrectly the agency is with the person using the ability. Think about the trolling potential of this ability? People use the teleporter to trick people into falling off the map. This would be abused like crazy.

Yeah, but I personally rarely see people troll, especially in a comp environment.

I specifically made it unable to be used in free fall to help prevent trolling. You can’t kill the person by using this ability, unless you run into the enemy and pull them in or pull someone from a fight.

Just like ice wall, it could be extremely life saving. Sure, some people will troll, but it has a lot of benefits when used in a situation when you need it.

I never hear people complain about Leap of Faith from WoW. It’s EXTREMELY powerful, especially in arenas. I think there are a lot more positives than negatives.

Blizzard technically already has feedback on this ability, just from a different game to see if it would be acceptable in OW.

just like sym i dont think a support that cant heal will work though

Support doesn’t mean the character is supposed to heal, or the class would be marked as healer.

This character DOES provide a form of healing as shields. They will give 150 health to a target, then 75, and then 38 to final target. That’s a 150 HP heal, 75, and then 38, equalling 263 health.

Unlike Symm, this hero allows you to pick who you want to shield and it is for a large sum of health. This will also jump to other targets and is a basic ability, so it can be used often. All of these Symm did not do.

i never said that a support needs to im saying that i think it would be such a big disadvantage that no one will use them since its in 2-2-2 compared to sym whcih was open que

This character would provide a lot of shields over the match, which is a form of healing. People thought Brig’s 150 HP pack was too strong. Sure, she also AoE healed, but this character can transfer those shields to other targets automatically.

Symm’s ult was shield gen or teleporter. This character freely gives shields as a standard ability, which can equate to a lot of health “healed”. On top of that, an ult reducing full team damage and CC immunity for 6 seconds is honestly probably busted af.

I think this support would be extremely powerful in death ball comps and/or paired with Ana. Those two supports would be extremely powerful together.

Please no troll abilities for raging teammates.

I was going more for Stukov. Same style aesthetic. More nature vibe, Pathogen style “heal” as ability. Also transfers to another target like him. The rest is original, but he was more the inspiration.

Leap of Faith was created to be a life saver. While people can rage and troll with it, it isn’t often this happens on any hero. Mei can troll with wall and I have rarely seen that happen on my 2,000 hours of this game.

This ability could counter people trying to hook people off cliffs, like Illios Well, for example. Pull someone from Hog hook, grav, overextending, target about to die in a fight, save someone trying to run back to spawn who is almost dead, pull people to cover from other ults, like High Noon or Self-Destruct, etc.

It has A LOT more benefits than negatives. Sure, some people might use it to troll, but the benefits and life saving potential of this ability far surpasses the troll aspect.

The issue with leap compared to wall though.

If me as rein know my limits and I want to push and my zarya is ready.

But my healer gets nervous and pulls me out it’s a massive troll.

There shouldn’t be an ability that allows someone to make a positioning call on someone else’s behalf in OW

Mercy has it right with GA it’s exactly that ability but in reverse.

So the player only controls their own hero.

I don’t want some nervous healer in my back line controlling what I do at the front.

WoW already has this ability and I have never once heard someone complain about it, because it can be a game changer, especially in battlegrounds or arenas.

It will have a learning curve, but let’s say you’re Rein and you just charge into the enemy to basically kill yourself, this hero can pull you back if things get dicey, giving you another chance.

Many times you can’t control how much damage you take or prevent your death. This ability can do exactly that. A well-timed pull could save your whole push/fight.

Again, some people might use it to troll, but the benefits far outweigh the negatives.

Blizzard also has enough feedback from WoW that they could determine if it would be healthy for another game like OW, which arenas are basically like OW, just with 5 players instead of 6.

You and i fundamentally disagree and this is OW and not wow.

Aside from stuns hacks slows.

You should NEVER lose complete control over your hero in OW.

Next thing we’ll have mind control

Or some other BS that would ruin the game.

If they ever came out with this ability like Anduins pull in HOTS

I would literally never tank again.

It’s not up to someone else to make my in game movement decisions in a fast paced game.

One wrong pull and I would literally lose my mind on my healer.

Let’s say you’re solo grav’d and they pull you out. Would you be upset by that?

You get hooked off the map and pulled back up. Will you be upset?

You’re trapped in Blizzard and they pull you out. Will you be upset?

Your shield breaks during High Noon and they pull you behind cover. Will you be upset?

You’re overextended and your team can’t save you. They pull you back and you’re saved, allowing for a stronger hold. Upset?

You’re stuck in Whole Hog against a wall and you’re pulled to freedom. Upset?

You’re pushed out of position and backed into a corner. You’re pulled out.

You get Hog hooked and pulled away from him.

You’re charged by Rein and get pulled from his charge.

Ice walled? They break a pillar and pull you through.

Trapped in Mine Field? Pulled out before they detonate.

These are just examples that immediately popped in my head, and there are SO many more. Again, more positives. Why would you not want to be saved in so many situations where you literally just can’t be saved?

To EVERY SINGLE one of those… that’s MY fault for being out of position and I need to get better.

I’ll take that death EVERY time over someone else controlling my hero for me.

It’s a fun idea.
