New Support Hero: Cleanse Ability

With only one tank, it is evident that Ana is really powerful.

Every match your whole team will be purple with anti nade and your shieldless tank, asleep.

I don’t want any of Ana’s abilities removed. I just think we need a new support hero with a “cleanse” ability that can lift the anti nade effects and any incapacitation, like sleep, hack or roots.

It might seem that no one likes playing rock paper scissors, but I’m willing to bet support players are.

My friend and I were talking about how itd be cool to have a support hero inspired by Zarya. I think a support that can cleanse is a super cool idea and would probably be really fitting in ow2. (although would be good in ow1 too haha)

It would be good anywhere, to be honest hahaha.

But I have heard that dev’s don’t want to make an ability “situational”. Like, it wouldn’t make sense to use the cleanse all the time, just when yuou get this kind of effect, but I would definitely welcome it.

I don’t think there should be one hero specifically that can do it, but all supports. maybe after 2 seconds of constant healing. But i do think there needs to be a counter to status effects.

Easier fix. Get rid of anti-heal. Replace it with an escape or selfsustain. And then tone down the survivability of tanks a bit.

Devs have been getting rid of status effects that block player agency.

And AntiHeal not only screws over Tank players, but it screws over other Healers too.

You don’t need a big status effect that makes Tanks really vulnerable on a non-ult ability. When the game only has 1 Tank per team.

TripleTank, Slambulance, GOATs and DoubleBarrier are all impossible in Overwatch 2’s primary game modes.

Why don’t we remove all abilities then and make OW like any other generic shooter? How about that?

There’s more players who want Overwatch to be closer to Apex Legends, than there are that want it be closer to BattleBorn.

People with your game design sentiments just aren’t profitable enough.

Well kinda, people who are more ability-spam focused, will probably head to PVE.

That’s where I’ll be. No worries.

Meta would ironically evolve on that hero alone tbh.
It’s going to be the new Ana.

It Just like everyone went Ana when she got the antinade? Man, we need new heroes and new abilities. Period.

Just make it a skilled healer with not that much HPS (like Zen) with cleanse.

Cleanse would be an ok concept in 6v6.
But 5v5 is going to make it meta especially since if it’s going to be the only support to have it.

Even if they removed AntiHeal entirely, Bionade would still be one of the most overloaded abilities in the game.

Remove those primary game modes that weren’t made for DM, 5 V 5 or role lock from OW2 and problem solved :man_shrugging:. They can create new modes that would fit DM playstyle better. Capture the flag is one of them.

Keep OW1 as the game it was intended to be and keep OW2 as a separate game for people that like DM games.

Sorry guys, I just can’t agree with you. I love MORE heroes and MORE abilities. A support that kind of counters Ana, is what we need. Heck, make the cleanse have double the cooldown. We need counterplay.

It’s a lot easier to get a lot more players into Overwatch from shooter games like Apex and Valorant.

And get ability focused players into PVE, WoW, and Hearthstone.

And then let the people don’t fall into either quit the game. There’s not enough of those players to matter.

The problem is not the hero or any hero, as a matter of fact… yet turning Overwatch into a 5 V 5 DM type of game when the core of the game and its modes don’t fit with this change.

5 V 5 should have its own PVP game modes.

Sadly I don’t think they will go back on this decision. It’s too much of a commitment for them to be able to save face and go back.

It’s what we are working with now… And we do need more heroes and new abilities to be able to co exist in this new 5v5 bs we got.

Well look at it this way.

The ratio of FPS-to-MOBA in OW2 is a lot closer to OW1 during it’s first year after launch.

And those are primarily where all the returning players are coming from.

I’m not sure those players are willing to join a 6-year old game that had a few band-aid changes to make it look like it fits 5 V 5 when it doesn’t.

Just because the original Overwatch community liked 2016 PVP doesn’t mean they will like PVE. The reality is that a lot of players won’t like the strategically barren OW2 direction and they will not bother playing PVE either so they will be “Overwatch” deprived since OW1 won’t exist anymore.

I’m not so sure. It looks like it’s 50-50 to me. They do matter.

I figure they just need to buff Supports to the point that they are harder to kill by flankers.

But that’s not the same as people who really love stuns and abilities that take away player agency.
