what if the sr system was based on personal performance? We all know Overwatch is supposed to be a team-based game, but right now it isn’t, and Blizzard doesn’t seem to want to take any steps to making it so. My idea is instead of losing/gaining sr based on the team’s performance (i.e winning or losing the game), why not gain or lose sr based on your own individual skill?
Basically, the placement matches would be used to set an average for your individual skill, and assign you your rank accordingly. From there on out, any time your performance is below that average, you lose sr at the end of the game, and anytime it goes above, you gain sr. And after a certain streak of winning or losing, your average adjusts. This way, you can skill rank up, and you can still change your sr rating, but this time it’s up to you and you alone, and your teammates don’t contribute.
Obviously, if you have poor healers on your team your performance that game might not be so hot, but you would still lose sr if you lost that game bc of the heals with this new system or the current one. I personally think this would be a much better option to the sr system currently in place, which is something that I still don’t 100% understand, and I definitely don’t 100% agree with.
EDIT: with this system, it would still be possible to gain sr even if you lose, and you could still lose sr even if you win; it’s all up to how you personally played
Most of the player base are under PBSR, so your gain/loss is based on how well you do compared to your regular play. However you still have to win to gain and you lose on a loss.
Because it’s a team game.
If it was solo-stat based, people would play to pad their stats in order to gain SR, and would neglect the team play required to actually win the match.
It’s funny how there are threads asking for PBSR (performance based SR) to be removed, and threads asking for it to be everything.
Using performance metrics has several issues:
Not every hero’s utility is easily put into metrics. Splitting an enemy team with a Mei wall will often win a fight. How do you measure that?
What if your team is doing so well, you as a healer hardly have any damage to heal up? Congrats on losing SR because your healing/min sucks!
Nearly every stat that is “good” to increase, is also “bad” in a different context.
Number 3 is the biggest issue, everything you want to do in Overwatch is context-dependent.
Rein needs to block damage right? Blocking trash damage before your team is ready to push is the best way to max that stat, but leaves your shield low when your team actually needs it.
Doing damage is good right? Unless you have your ult, your team is regrouping, and you are just feeding enemy supports their ult without securing any kills.
Healing is good right? Unless you’ve already lost the fight, and now are just giving enemies bonus ult charge with extra damage.
Accuracy is good, right? Maybe you could say this for hitscan, but any projectile hero should be spamming attacks at corners and chokes. If your accuracy is super high, that means you aren’t providing useful spam at the right time which pressures enemies.
Etc. While stats generally do point to who is better, there are plenty of exceptions. Which is why PBSR is a SMALL factor (for low ranks), but not the main one by any means.
Football doesn’t let you have full team of wide receivers or line backers or quarterbacks. Every person has signed up for a role prior to going into the game
Yes that would be great, but as you see it already is a personal performance system that is tied to a team based win/loss. If you have an absolute shyt team and your performance suffers because of it, you have played lower than your MMR and you lose more SR.
Yet if you have a great team and everything goes perfect and you perform above your MMR the game recognizes this as a fluke and you don’t gain any extra SR, you gain the standard amount for your MMR rank. But the system isn’t flawed…
Different strokes for different folks. I would probably be at least where I believe I deserve to be (low-mid diamond instead of mid plat) and potentially slightly higher if performance based SR was exclusively a thing. I hate team SR. It carries some pretty ludicrously bad players, or maybe I am just higher, as I stated, idk. But the discrepancy is really noticeable, especially to my enemies. I get more compliments from them than the ungrateful team that I boost. Ugh.
I disagree. Individual SR performance gains encourages one tricking and playing as a hero you’re best at instead of what the team needs.
Example: We need a Reinhardt to hold up a shield but our tank player only plays Winston and Dva. With individual SR, he thinks “I can earn more SR by playing Winston so I’ll play him” instead of “I’m not great at Reinhardt but he will be best for our team”.
Blizzard needs to get tougher on players who are reported. Take off the kid gloves and start perma banning trolls and see how quickly comp turns into a serious game mode.
I What? No! I don’t want to be perma banned because my teammate was angry that I chose to play hamtaro and reported me. Or I had a toxic 3 stack that hurled abuse at me all game and then reported me because we lost.
The report system is abused so much that like 90% of reports are because you don’t play the hero that your teammates want you to play or because you played a hero that you are bad at.
For example, I dropped like 1k SR because i got tired of playing tracer/sombra all the time and decided I wanted to learn how to play doomfist & hammond (who I am really bad at) but kept trying my hardest to win. Eventually my account got suspended for playing doomfist and Hammond badly and getting reported a lot as a result (I was actually starting to get pretty good with Hammond but stopped playing him after I got suspended for playing him)
If they increase the punishment for getting reported, basically it will turn into “you can only play the heroes you are best with at all times and never try out different heroes or you will get banned” which is very stupid
So the whole report system needs to be revamped so an actual human can decide who gets punished and who doesn’t. Till then it’s always going to be a crap shoot till trolls and throwers are gone.
let be honest here, so change to the sr system is gonna make anyone happy. simply just stop carring an play QP+ as intended. its not meant to be competitive, its not meant to be a team-based, it was meant to relax after work(jeff words exactly). i learn that instead of whining about my teammates an crap, i just turn off teamchat, lock my pic or pic around my team, an just play.
I just need to clear up a minor misconception about the current Performance Based Skill Rating adjustments, and that PBSR is allegedly a “small” factor in the SR calculation for players of Platinum rank and lower. The factors of winning the match, strength of schedule, and frequency of play (which apply to all ranks) still apply at a greater capacity than PBSR.
but there both QP tho, its just that one is QP plus ranks to make you feel special. An most of the player base now isnt even doing qp as much so rank the best way to practice a hero. (yes your free to not put mics in or cooperate with your team in soloque, your allowed to play that way an blizzard endorces it)
