We’re testing some changes with Soldier: 76’s Heavy Pulse Rifle that make the weapon more controlled by recoil, rather than bullet spread. Overall, this will make him better when firing in full auto, rather than controlled bursts. While recoil exists with other heroes’ weapons, these changes are intended to be impactful to gameplay, rather than establishing the “feel” of the weapon.

- Constant recoil added
- Ammo increased from 25 to 30

People wanted bolder Experimentals than +5 to this and -5 to that. Well, here we go!
I can’t wait to try this out, but I imagine I’m going to have to; I’m guessing the queue time for Experimental DPS is going to stretch all the way to Pluto.

Sounds strong on paper. I’d like to actually try it out first. Who knows how bad the recoil will be. What it will be like shooting at mid to long range.

This is gloriously broken. I don’t play much dps, but I do play 76 and this is just shut down your mind, drink a beer, meditate, and track. The recoil isn’t bad at all. This can’t go through and honestly is just a waste of time, but what a taste of glory.

I mean that wasn’t really my point. My point is why is he getting buffs in the first place as if he needs any? Why are we making a hitscan stronger when the whole point recently has been that hitscans are busted? Also removing spread completely??? They could’ve easily gone for a better buff compared to just making it flat out busted.
Yes I know recoil is there now. But compared to the spread? Recoil is nothing and can easily be managed, ESPECIALLY on PC.
Also it depends how the soldier plays. A soldier playing at range and / or on a high ground is usually the one eating doom for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Most Experimental changes do go to live, but I’m guessing this is one of those where they’re going to see how it does before pushing it. Then they can work out what compensation nerfs need to be done, or whether just to leave well enough alone and keep him with his current firing model.
A blue post that let us know whether that’s actually the case or not would be extremely welcome though!

Can’t wait for soldier changes to go through so i can get literally lasered while trying to play my doom.
I don’t think they should remove spread entirely, but reduced spread on a recoil pattern seems like it could be fun to use.

It was more, I tried to farm, he sprinted in mid air while in a combo (cause that physically makes sense), and my shotgun spread would proceed to outline the man like i’m playing connect the dots.
