What do you guys think of this.
A hero (Damage, 200 health) that uses a pump shotgun to shoot a hitscan slug. It would do 140 damage up to 15 meters, 100 damage at 20 meters (For reference, distance of a hook and moiras grasp), and then taper down to 60 damage at 25 meters and out. NO HEADSHOTS.
It would take 2 seconds to pump after every shot (for reference, tracers blink recharges in 3 seconds) with a 6 rounds in it and a 2 seconds reload (so yes, reloadng is just for asthetics. It fires every 2 seconds).
This would give him one of the lowesr DPS in the game (I believe the 3rd lowest, at 70 DPS). But still give him high kill potential, as he could kill squishies in 2.1 seconds (with the following 1.9 seconds reloading). So I’m sure you can see his strength.
Here’s his weakness. He could help deal heavy damage to finish off a tank, but in general his tank and shield busting abilities would really suck (6.1 seconds to kill a hog at close range, for reference… That’s really slow), this makes him much different than our other shotgun heroes, Reaper, Hog, and Torb.
This is all I have, but it seems like it would be interesting.
So…essentially a pre-damage-nerf-Roadhog-ish hero that shoots even slower, cannot headshot, and does slightly less damage.
Yeah nah, there would really be no place for him, with all due respect. 140 burst damage is very much not impressive–Reaper’s left click already does 140 up close, and can freely headshot for 280.
You will have to massively improve the oneshot damage, which would then be no fun to most people as they get randomly oneshot.
So you didn’t look at the range stats, huh? Maybe I should highlight them. Oh well.
FYI I did take a look, but a ranged-shotgun-ish hero is basically Roadhog. Once again, mildly more range is NOT going to compensate for lack of headshots and dps. People who have mastered Roadhog would have no reason to practice this new hero.
Why would i play this hero over hanzo or mccree? (that is getting buffed)
Hog fires a travel time projectile that if you hit shorter than 20 feet does 50 damage, and if you hit further than 22 feet it does about 50 cuz the shot has spread out so much. Not the same at all. But ok.
Mccree doing 140 damage per shot, with a falloff down to 70 at 45 meters.
Rpm of 2 per second.
Hanzo doing 250 each second.
- Easier to hit for full damage since it can be the whole body
- Very useful for finishing off targets with basically full health
- Feels saucy to take out that squishy running away with over half health that thinks he’s safe
In reply to your last message, even pros get headshots less than half the time. So please don’t post those stats like they’re true. DPS is always calculated with body shots.
I’m sorry but for the small amount of damage he does per second combined with no headshotting there would be no real reason to play him over mccree who can do double to quadruple his damage in the same or reaper who could do 4 to 8 times his damage in close range

Mccree would still do 70 damage x2 for body shots, in a second. Dealing twice the damage.
And he would have the potential to hit headshots, and kill tanks.

Reliable burst damage can be very strong. Phara has horrible DPS, but amazing burst. Same with Widow. Sombra has worse DPS than Tracer but is picked cuz she has other benefits. This game isn’t black and white with high and low DPS.

Can I make a suggestion? Change pump shotgun to lever action rifle. One of his abilities could be something like double rate of fire for one magazine/6 shoots every 10 seconds of so. And make he shots gibe some small knock back as if it’s a “blow you off your feet” powerful weapon.
It would be 140 to the body, which would be pretty easy to land. The slug would have a bigger projectile hitbox than McCrees bullet by a lot.
How about we make Reaper and Roadhog suck less before making a new similar hero.

It’s a shotgun cuz it only works at close range. It wouldn’t be the same for a rifle.
Honestly this guy is more like an easier to hit but only close range sniper than a shotgun.
Yep 140 to the body not like i could use pharah and have nearly the same as that plus area damage plus flight plus no falloff, its not like i couldnt juse go zenyatta amd achieve a similar amount of damage from just primary fire not even that burst that is the secondary or hanzo and have much further range and the ability to headshot
You would need a great set of abilities and a really important ult for him to do anything better than mchanzo.
Given the 200 health we would be looking at a small frame hero (soldier size)
Speed / mobility would be highly important as he does way to little damage to stay in fights.
2 seconds to shoot each shot, then a long reload after 6?
An abillity like storm arrow could work, but then the whole point of the shotgun would go away.
Give him different shot types.
Normal shotgun shots (pellets like reaper)
Flechette that goes through barriers (still pellets)
Both of these with slightly less spread and damage than reaper.
Slugs as third option or ult. Giving much higher damage. 150+ per shot. No falloff.
