This game is so bad. I have 2700 hours in OW1 and ended up transferring an account to OW2 with the most rare skins which I only really played tank on. So I’m getting my dps and support up and am currently gold 1 on dps and I get this brand new player on my team playing tank. I mean they ended up saying later to their friend “I don’t think I’m ready for ranked yet” implying that this is their FIRST TIME in a ranked game. This person was so unbelievably bad I actually told them they should go back and play the tutorial. THEY PLAYED TANK IN OUR BACK LINE AND DIDN’T CONTEST PAYLOAD ONCE.
These people should not be playing in games with high gold players! They shouldn’t play with anyone but low bronze period. It’s reasons like this I went from playing 25 hours a week to 2 and I’m probably going to make that 0 now until something about matchmaking is done. This isn’t a ranked game anymore, it’s a clown fiesta.

Matchmaking as a whole is a problem, placement games putting a new player up against gold is completely fine. Those are 2 different things.

This is a very team based game where carry potential is much lower. It matters a lot more that your teammates know what theyre doing compared to other games.

If they’re new and in your game then is it their fault? Why be toxic to them? They already could tell that they didn’t belong there so don’t take it out on them. I feel bad for that person

Yeah except they don’t. In Apex there is no placements. You start at the lowest rank and work your way up. How it should be. If you’re a good player you move up quicker, but there’s no reason a new player should be starting in the middle of ladder.

Granted I don’t play Apex so I could be wrong there, I was more thinking of games like League. I disagree with putting players at the bottom and forcing them to climb. It means that silver players will constantly have waves of Diamond+ players coming through the ranks which would feel horrendous.

Overwatch takes game sense to be diamond +. Shroud only made it to high gold and thinks symmetra is op. SHROUD.

i mean i absolutely agree that new players seem to get matched into way too high sr at the start. but i have zero doubts that most new players go into a mad dash down the ladder shortly after ranking in. so it shouldnt be a problem a few seasons in anymore, atleast not so much.

Yes, matchmaking is flawed because the division range is way too wide. Yes, it sucks getting a new player/unranked player in your game when they’re considerably lower than the rest of the lobby. No, the solution is not to place everybody at Bronze 5 instead of giving placement games.

Oh wow the system where all players start their ranking in the middle of the pack rather than building from 0 to upwards is horrible? Whooo would’ve seen this 
Honestly sometimes you wonder how protected the devs are in their employment contracts when the sheer incompetence is soo horrible that if any other indie company had these suggestion made they would fire the dev eventually as a massive liability

Dog I just saw a comment of you saying Moira requires just as much aim as every other hero. I’m not even going to interact with you 
its by design though. telling a new player that they are capable early is the entry level player retention tool. if you tell players right away they suck many are gonna be discouraged.
Right, because nothing tells a new player that they’re capable more than going on an instant deranking streak while all their teammates are malding at them while they’re puffing copium that they don’t belong to where they’re deranking. Roiiight rooight

Agreed. Put them into Bronze 5 and let them ladder up. There is no reason for them to be put gold or even plat to get carried or be the reason for games lost so long, until the deranked so much.

This person was in a group in Comp, it’s reasonable to think they were playing QP in a group as well. Their rank was probably influenced by the people they played their early games with.
There are two problems with assuming that all new accounts must start in Bronze 5:
- Smurfs need to be pulled out of low ranks ASAP. That means the matchmaker needs to try to make a determination of whether they’re truly new players or not, which is a pretty complicated problem.
- Different new players have vastly different mechanical skill at FPS games.
If you’re in a gold lobby, it’s possible for example that they actually ranked silver and they’re in a duo with a plat.

Why? What if they’re naturally talented at aiming but just lack the gamesense? Wouldn’t that make them more like plat?
