New Player Here - This Game is Out of Control

I don’t know what to do anymore.
I shouldn’t have spent money on the battlepass.

As a new player, I had absolutely no idea how incredibly difficult it would be to just have fun.

So far, I’ve played less than a day. Out of 106 games, I have won 34 of them.

Quickplay seems to be full of teams who are probably in groups or even on microphone with each other because they seem to know where I’m coming from at all times.
The matches I’ve been in have been completely one-sided stomps. It seems as if it doesn’t matter if I try or not. These games are not fair or evenly matched at all.

Decided to give Stadium a try, and it’s even worse. Jaw dropping stomp-fests by the enemy team. These people seem like professionals or something. It is not even worth the effort. It’s incredibly discouraging.

I can’t even play in competitive mode because I guess you need 50 wins of Quickplay, but it seems like Quickplay is full of professional players and it is nearly impossible to get any wins.

I don’t know why, but this game seems to be completely out of control and the game designers don’t seem to have this player base in check. I can only imagine how frustrated other players are…

Ouch, as a general rule of thumb, you should only buy this things once you complete them. In any game. Even if they offer incentives to do otherwise. It’s a scam.

Lowkey my winrate right now too. :relieved:

If you are still on the fence, I highly recommend getting those 50 wins in quickplay so you can convert to competitive. The players are way worse there, I promise.

buying or not buying the bp doesnt’ do anything and you don’t have pay for anything if you save your coins. I stopped buying bps around season 3 but I still get every other bp from the 600 free coins you get each season, and with the mythic currency thing, you don’t even miss out on them.

as far as the core game goes. Yeah, ow is very very messy. a lot of abilities and some have different effectiveness that seem arbitrary to new players like the tank passives with knock back/ana sleep or the dps passive with healing. hell, just now they added orisa ult to the list of things that sombra cannot hack… just because. you just kind of get used to it, accept it or you find a new game to play.

just have to give it time. there are a lot of good players in OW, also the game is kinda wonky.

exaggeration? an OW match is average 12 minutes. If youve played 106 games, thats like 21 hours straight. Maybe get some sleep?

This is correct. There are a lot of 2 to 5 stacks in OW.

pretty much, the matchmaking in unranked is atrocious. In Ranked, it doesnt really get good til you get to about diamond and above, where the skill gap starts to shrink and it becomes harder for people to smurf. (a smurf is a high level player who intentionally tries to get put into low level lobbies)

Just understand that OW is not designed for solo play. You CAN play solo, but your best experience is going to be with a pre made team. People have been asking for a solo queue for years, blizzard wont give it to us.

I was told a long time ago that, in order to do well, you had to pretty much master all aspects of the game, from positioning, to knowledge of every other class on the map, and to be able to keep up with the ult charge and useage of every other player in the match. You basically need to be able to solo carry a team in order to do well. You need to spend hours aim training to build your muscle memory and learn to be able to aim and track targets. These are the things required to play with the best.

Now, if you’re a normal human like the rest of us who simply dont have time to make OW a second job…just go into each match with the mindset that you are going to do your best, and dont worry about the things that are beyond your control…like stomps, and cheaters, and things of that nature. If you are here to play competitively, and you are serious about it, then prepare for a LOT of work. If you are here to just have fun, then dont sweat it, and just dont get all worked up because of these game issues. If you do, you will have a miserable time in OW, and it will do nothing but frustrate you.

Overwatch CAN be played solo, but the game caters to pre made teams.

The matchmaker will have been trying to work out where you are for a lot of that. You will balance out to 50/50 pretty soon.

This is also true.

Don’t worry, winrate will stabilize over time. This game will force you to win.

I’m sorry, but this is bound to happen when you jump into a game people have been playing this long. You’ll get better, don’t worry.

this game is not new-user friendly at all, i’m afraid.

If youre truly brand new, i would suggest playing vs ai or joining custom games. Games like this are always besy with friends and its a lot easier to meet nontoxic people in thise modes that you could then group with in normal.

That probably just means you need to get better. Watch YT guides. Post replay codes here and we can help give tips. Find a streamer who plays a hero you main and observe their gameplay. Try to emulate what they do to be successful.

Imagine that…team based game works better for those playing as a team

Ouch.

Have you tried other modes, like in the Arcade? Or 6v6 Limited-OQ?

5v5 QP might be the worst experience for new players even thou its the main mode…

Being new is tough. As you play more you’ll get better. Being new means the game still needs to figure out your mmr. Your probably going up against people who have played for years. Once you unlock comp you might have a better time. There’s no shame in being new and over your head, or even being new and bad. Slowly but surely you’ll get better. We all did

When i bought the game back in 2018, they never said I had to be ON a team…imagine that.

Well no, but if you are, its easier because you can coordinate instead of being that reaper that screws off into the enemy backline and dies because no one was ready to (try) and help them

i agree 100%, which is why i was telling the OP that, while you CAN be a solo player, your experience is going to be generally worse than if you are on a pre made team.

This is why people have been asking for years for a solo queue, but blizzard wont give us that option. They seem to think the game is better off by punishing the solo players by forcing them into going up against lopsided odds when they continually have to face stacks.

I made a smurf some time ago, and I have to say replaying QP at low levels is torture. Sure you’re new so that’s part of the problem but the people at the very bottom you need to grind through will make you want to quit.

If you can get to a better matches and better gamesense your time will improve.

It’s very tough for new players. I had a horrible experience on support in S1 when I first played. Now it’s a lot of fun for me as well as Stadium. I don’t have good advice except for don’t give up. People probably hear your footsteps unless you’re on Echo.

I didn’t buy S1’s pass and regret it. I actually quit that season. Support was awful to play. Then I came back. I think support had a buff in S2. Been a Kiriko main since then. I played exclusively comp for better matches. You’ll probably start at the bottom like I did. Just focus on learning the game. It’s not an easy game to learn. I don’t think Stadium is a good idea for a new player, but if you have fun playing it, definitely play it.

OW has been ground down to the addicts, so everyone you’re playing against has probably been playing nonstop for years.

Role queue and 5v5 are to blame, alongside the bias support mains who won’t accept reality that the role needs nerfs across the entire board.
