New player experience

Hello all. I wanted to come on here and share my experience from my first 20-30 games.

Communication: I have yet to talk to anyone in game because your ability to communicate is taken from you until you meet a # of games played threshold. I find this odd in a competitive game. It took 15 games for me to be able to type in team chat which I find odd. I have heard about the state of communication in this game so this comes as no shock to me.

Chat banned: This is hilarious to me actually. I cant even talk in game or use match chat yet due to the limitations placed on me by the system. I requeued into a game and it made sure to inform my my account was silenced. Possibly an oversight or people abuse the system when they lose.

Matchmaking: I had heard that the game forces a 50/50 stat and thru 30 games it seems this is very legitimate. While I have no concrete evidence of this I will say that I have seen the same 5 people on the enemy team in 9 straight games. This could be purely circumstantial seeing as I am a new player yet when I looked at 2 profiles both of them had more than 500 hours in game. Now I play solo so I don’t understand how or why I am finding myself in games against a full team that is able to cooperate.

Toxicity: I asked a question how to unlock new heroes and was immediately met with insane vitriol. This community thru 30 games has been more annoying than anything. I see why they refuse to communicate. Here is a code from my first night of playing…pay attention to my tank BHYB6D. In less than 30 games I no longer want to play this anymore

Cheating: I have seen the same duo with chinese characters for names in the last 6 games I have played not only focusing me but they are very clearly wall hacking while doing so. The shots were a little suspicious as well but the very real sign I saw was when they shot a sombra out of stealth on the sniper character I think Widowmaker. I have managed to unlock Zenyatta and I was suspicious of them so I switched to him knowing that he doesn’t make sound while moving and still found they knew where I was at all times. After the 6th game they split up and we were joined by a player with the name Misogud…I am sure that is totally legit btw. I have already seen enough to realize everything I have heard about the state of cheating in this game is true. Overwatch community…you may think no one cheats in your game but you are dead dead wrong.

Even worse I think is that I have seen people openly defending obvious cheating. I would think you want some competitive integrity in your game. Yet calling out an obvious aim bot gets you dogpiled. My only assumption is they know cheating is a problem and are ok with it or they themselves cheat and have to defend it. Either way it is bad. i have seen 6 obvious aimbots in less than 40 games played.

Sombra: Enough said…no character should have perma stealth period. She seems to be everyone’s go to when they die. Honestly playing against her is not difficult yet she makes the game very boring seeing her in every game I have played so far. She seems like a crutch hero for players with poor positioning or aim.

Favorite heroes so far: Coming from a CS background I thought soldier would be my go to. He seems underwhelming. I have leaned more on Ana, Illari, Zen and have played Tracer and Reaper when I que for DPS. Zarya has been my tank of choice. I do not have Ball or Doomfist unlocked and I don’t think I will play enough games to try them.

Unlocking heroes: It says it will take me 150 games to unlock all the heroes in the game. I am already kind of bored with the game. I don’t see me lasting 150 games to play heroes I haven’t had a chance to play yet.

Ego: I have seen what I can only describe as a poor pity me attitude from the players I have seen so far. I am currently sitting at 17-8 and I the players I have seen while being the same ones over and over again have seemed to develop a personal vendetta simply bc they cant stand losing. When they do lose it seems they just group up with friends and focus whatever player has previously beaten them. I would like to remind people this is only a game…giving yourself a heart attack over losing is not good for your health.

Cross play: I feel this sort of falls in with ego and toxicity. I have already seen multiple stacks of players using cross play in my games. I feel this is a nonsense way to manipulate the system to ruin games for new players. My personal feelings about cross play aside (it merely exists to hide true player numbers and is used as a crutch to fill pvp games) it seems many players use it simply to fulfill the ego frustration they get from losing by queuing with players potentially using the advantages that are available to console.

Why: Why does it take 10 battle pass tiers finished to express thoughts about the game? I am sure many people are capable of formulating their own thoughts and seeking answers without arbitrarily forcing them to keep playing the game just so they can ask questions. I have continued to play simply to finish the 10 tiers required to share my thoughts at this point.

Final Thoughts: Every aspect of it in my first 30+ games has only offered reasons to delete it. I think the game should be solo que only when you are starting out until you reach a certain threshold to group up…if you can do this with the ability to comm you can do this for grouping. I am not capable of speaking on the balance of the game even though it seems incredibly bad. Character designs look cool, abilities are cool even if I question how regular abilities marginalize ultimate’s (Immortality drone, Suzu i think it is), some characters are way to over kitted. It makes me question any other characters get played…looking at you supports (Baptiste, Illari, Kiriko every game). I don’t see myself playing this game long term. I heard great things about it but it seems a lot of what I heard has been either an outright lie or misleading.

Edit: I have achieved 50 wins. I can play comp…I think this is a great place to stop.

This is an incredibly detailed and well thought out explanation. Its a little long but I can see why you have done it this way. You hit almost every major point and gave a valid reason where you see issues.

I dont really have the cheater problem cuz it seems the brazilian servers dont have that problem.

The limit on communications is a safety measure in most games (specially F2P), so people dont go creating free new accounts to text/voicespam troll/hate messages.

About the 50/50 force rate, so they said not long ago that, technically, someone doing really bad gets paired in a match with more chances to win. I dont exactly recall the method here, but probably, they pick a enemy team full of endorsement level 1 or 2, and maybe just one player being 3, so the player has more chances against that team.

Which is a bad design cuz it only makes the team of that player having to carry someone thats obviously not at their MMR. And it shows at the end when you lose and that no title player is endorsement lvl 1 or 2 TOPS.

if you really are a new player, all your points are spot on and I can ensure you nothing much will change even if you keep playing.

To be completely fair and in their defense…endorsement level has nothing to do with player skill. Most of his criticizes are extremely valid from the new player perspective. How is he expected to learn or get invested in the game if every game is a stomp or there are suspicious players. I can see why he would be hesitant to keep playing. It offers not real reason to put any time into this game given its current state. I have seen many of his criticisms as well yet they fall on deaf ears by a dev team who truly believes they are doing what is best for this game. We often forget that the way this game has longevity is by being inviting to new players and it seems that his has been the authentic 2024 overwatch experience and that is a bad place for new players to find themselves.

As someone with a lot of hours, Its not easy to identify a new player unless they mention it.

so its normal for me to think that player has played many hours and still doesn’t know the basics.

But if I somwhow see he is new, like complaining about d.va but not using any decent hero against her basically feeding into her, This allows me to give kind recomendations. Like i told my junkrat to try mei and i like to believe he started to have fun that game.

I only bash on players conplaining, whining, flaming others, while beeing the worst player on the team themselves.

new players asking for help always get a calm kind answer.

but I have seen new players with ego ā€˜s bigger than diamond dps ego’ s and thats not healthy.

I wont stay kind if you accuse your team of throwing while beeing the only one throwing.

So My best advice is to connect with someone who plays the game more often to ease the start.
It can help a lot to practise heroes against what they should play compared to try and understand the heroes in suboptimal matchups especially as a new player.

dont let the door hit you on the way out

You are literally proving his point. What a moronic response. But I have always assumed you were nothing more than a bot anyway

oh no loreaccurate is calling me a bot. anyway

Nah, like 90% of the time I feel its a endorsement lvl 2, they are.

Wanted to log on to play a game. This was my first game. A8NY50 deleted the game after. The soldier is clearly aim botting. He was stacked with the reaper and DVA. If this is what I have to expect as a new player I am already done.

From my experience it really feels like cheaters run this game and you have to pray to find a game without one. Such a shame

There are many clues in this that you are definitely not a new player. But nice you get out your complaints. No need to fake the new player stuff though.

Name anything that may remotely show that I am not a new player. I am seeing why this community is the way it is.
