New Paint; Same Garbage

This game is genuinely a piece of garbage. Not even on a trolling and or inflammatory note, but rather a criticism coming from someone who bought OW1 and played off and on now in OW2. This game is trash. And it is indeed intended to be as such.

The devs repeatedly do things which they themselves know will cause chaos within their community. Yet, go silent when it comes to interacting with the community. And before you say how can you blame them? Easily. They intentionally do things time and time again which invoke nothing but player anger.

You lied about PVE. You have lied about matchmaking. You lied about 6v6, and have repeatedly tried to sabotage it. You copied off of Marvel Rivals, in regards to both their UI and their hero designs. As well as a variety of other features the game has. And why did you copy them? Because your players abandoned you for MR, and your pockets started getting dry. And you felt the pressure from both your players and game journalists.

You keep pushing this agenda for hyper mobility, without putting in appropriate ways to deal with them. It is clear as hell you don’t test a damn thing when it comes to balance, because if you played your own game? You’d see the dumpster fire it is from your awful implementations that nobody asks for. Who tf asked for Sierra? Who asked for her buffs? Nobody! Who asked for the console aim assist buffs? NOBODY.

You let cheating run rampant. On both console and PC. PC has so much aimbotting going on it is disgusting, and don’t even get me started on how awful it is on console with people using aim scripts and things like mouse adapters. Console cheating has reached a point that the game is literally unplayable, unless if you yourself cheat.

And that’s not me saying it. That is tons of streamers reporting and documenting it, people over on Reddit documenting it, and the people who play the game at upper ranks. The competitive integrity of this game on console has been a joke for years, but you don’t give a damn because we on PC are your main audience. And now, we are getting tired of their problems leaking into our games. So, the problem you ignored? Now overflowing to your main platform.

You want to know why people quit your game, and leave matches without giving a damn these days so much? Besides the terrible matchmaking? It is because you have bred this problem yourselves, by ignoring the problems for so long. By repeatedly lying, and refusing to acknowledge the issues the game has had from both a balance and community perspective.

Things are so awful, you don’t even interact with your own community on your own forums. Because you’re terrified of the criticism you receive. And rather than face it head on, you shutdown posts and act like the valid complaints don’t exist. Until again people leave upset, leave negative reviews and tell their friends not to touch your game. Which then hurts your profits. Which then you do the bare minimum or copy someone else like you did MR to try to win back players.

Oh, and one last thing. Kaplan and his team were way better, and OW1 was way better than the slop this game is today. Even with the things he said in that interview, his team was way more competent and hands on with this community than these jokers are today.

Sheesh. For what it’s worth, it may not even be the real game devs making decisions anymore, but the suits. The people who only care about money and nothing else. Would make sense, seeing how the game might as well be considered an overpriced skin vending machine. Let us faithfully remember how mid collabs cost as much as whole games :skull:

Nah. The game is great. I bet you are going to complain about something that is technically not the game.

See?

You preach it from the mountain tops my friend. Every point you’ve listed is 100% true.

This is what happens when you fire established game developers over the age of 35 and replace them with people whose LinkedIn profile shows that graduating from either UAT or SNHU (both online colleges) and average age of a DEV4 employee is under 26 years old.

This is typcial scenario in Monday’s developer meeting.

Keller: “Starrchild… what do you have for us this week to make the game better?”

Starrchild: “Well Aaron, lets take all the abondoned ideas that Kaplan and his team came up with in 2015 and start pooling from those, I’m sure we can find something to stick.” “Worse case, we just throw at them more flashy recolors in the shop, that should keep them quiet another week from complaining about MMR.”

Keller: “BRILLANT”

Aaron Keller’s annual job evaluation is based on cosmetic sales, not game quality. As long as he’s generating sales, the stakeholders don’t care what’s happening in the game at all.

EXACTLY!!! This is why as a community, complaining on the forums isn’t going to change anything. They don’t look at these posts. You hit them where it matters most, the SHOP. We need to pool together and stop buying any cosmetics in the SHOP. Even if it’s for 1 month, they will see a massive hit (the board).

Oh, of course. Game is fantastic. So great that it is currently sitting at Mixed on Steam regarding recent reviews (6,549) and mostly negative overall (154,993). And on XBOX’s Microsoft Store at a cool 3.3. Lmao.

This game is so phenomenal that everyday MULTIPLE threads from different folks keep appearing about the same valid complaints that mysteriously are ignored. Only for those same complaints to mysteriously appear in the scathing negative reviews left by thousands on platforms that matter.

Oh, and real quick? To the art team? The people in charge in actually designing the aesthetics of the maps and heroes? I have no smoke with you. Nor do most people. In fact it is pretty agreed upon that you’re doing a great job. Not even being sarcastic. You guys are literally holding this game by yourselves on your backs. Because without you? And your great art skills? This game would be crushed to dust beyond even Bubsy levels of awful. So, I got nothing but respect for you all.

But, to you cats in charge of balance and community matters? You know, making sure that there is such a thing as community feedback being acknowledged? And interacting with the community? Sincerely? I don’t want see you on another YouTube video lying through teeth to millions, and ignoring critical points that should’ve been addressed years ago.

I don’t want to read another: Adjective, noun, or verb from you unless it is apologizing to your community and consumers. And or of course praising your art team. Giving them the respect and flowers.

And to the people squirming and rushing to flag something as spam or inflammatory or trolling all because the truth makes you uncomfortable? It should make you uncomfortable that you lie yourself, and support a company that doesn’t give a damn about you outside of how much money you can provide them. It should make you uncomfortable when it’s all said and done, you’re just an apologist who stayed lonely and found companionship in pretending what’s staring at you doesn’t exist.

But even then, it’s cool. Because yeah, you can make posts like these disappear that actually do spit facts. But, you can’t make this game’s history disappear. You can’t make the fact that the OW1 team hit it big, and landed spots in films and time on ESPN and other networks disappear. Nor can you make the hundreds of thousands of people who dislike this game think otherwise, as the damage has already been done and getting worse.

Engineers like me in their 40s would basically never in a million years take a job at most of these game companies anymore. They have to hire these kids to save money. They can’t afford me or my expectations of work life balance and living in southern California let me tell you, I have a lot of great engineering job options.

2 years ago I was contacted by one of their recruiters actually to fix an in house system that was over 20 years old. It was part of a Microsoft audit. They found that it was just so old out of date and bad it had to be fixed. So they hired a recruiter to look for someone. About a week late I got a call back from the recruiter who was at heated as could be, Blizzard had decided to not follow through and have someone inside just do the update for them regardless. I wonder if it or any other things ever actually got fixed.

From what I can tell they are just forcing content for cash out while on a dev death march. Not sure how long it will take sometimes they never actually die from it, but I promise you the days of quality are gone under the leadership they have now.

Well, I can tell you that I am doing my part in not buying cosmetics. The problem is there’s plenty of people who never touch competitive and don’t care about balance because they one-trick anyways, and who buy every single skin and charm related to their character.

The thing about how sales work for products like Overwatch is they don’t even need to capture the opinion of the majority, not even close. The majority of the sales come from a minority of the population

What you are saying makes sense if every Overwatch player bought 1 thing a month and that’s it. But what if 5% of players represented 75% of sales volumes. THAT is closer to the real sales picture unfortunately.

Why are so many people playing a game this badly rated?
Weird…

What were the lies here?

(Replying to you cause I was going to quote the same bit and this was easier )

Well, a lot of other people have beef with the developers as well. Nobody is ever like, “the core gameplay loop SUCKS.”

I actually feel as if their skin design has gotten really lazy. Saves me money, but I feel they could do better at making me feel the pressure.

This is some next-level red pill stuff. The game has its issues for sure, but sheesh. :grimacing:

I think gamers in general severely overestimate their knowledge of how game development works, and thus calls for changes that they deem “an easy fix”. Every kind of competitive game ends up with a loud separatist group who calls for the return of the glory days. They preach everything as if it had actual consensus within the entire community, when in reality they only speak for their own specific demographic. And they always understand game development better than the actual developers who do it for a living.

In Japan they even have a name for these kind of people, as they’ve started to interfere with gaming conventions in the country. They call them sekkyo ojisan, which translates roughly to “preechy dudes”. They go up to developers at conventions and rudely tell them how their games should be balanced and so on. It occurs even for demo’s of games that they’ve never ever played before.

Here’s a fantastic quote from a japanese developer who didn’t hold back on the topic:

"You, the preachy dude who comes to indie game exhibitions and looks at everyone like they’re beneath you. We’re sure you graduated from Tokyo University, work at a major game company and make games that sell millions of copies across the world. Your advice is far too valuable to be given out for free. Why don’t you join a conference with an astronomically high participation fee and share it with industry peers? Then, you can upload it to YouTube so we can watch it while we take a shi*."

That does describe me, yes. Overwatch was objectively better with Reinhardt as the dominate tank.

nothing burger of a post.

starting with PVE who gives af about that when overwatch was pvp at it’s core

complaining about mobility on heroes when Tracer is the face of Overwatch

AND complaining about matchmaking when it’s just the garbage community smurfing every other game

I do not understand it. If you want PvE, go play Mahvel or something.

Speak the truth.

Pretty much. But I still feel the matchmaking sucks regardless.

The thing is, everything I’ve said is facts. Even down to the numbers I gave. Provided straight from Steam itself. As for my takes on game design? Not only am I cool with quite a few devs (both triple AAA and indie), but a lot of these feelings are stated by devs of other games themselves.

Better yet, I’ll do you one better. The SAME things I said here, have been said by those who quit Blizzard and or specifically the OW team. Not were fired. Not asked to leave. Quit. As in willingly walked away from their jobs at Blizzard.

Also, I find it funny that people love to act like game design is rocket science. When you have indie devs with amazing talent appearing all over the place these days, and putting out products which are showered in praise and accolades. They may not be hero shooters, but are arguably in even more stressful genres. Where game balance has no choice but be on point. Especially because they are indie, and don’t have that big money backing them.

So, what is the OW team’s excuse? And why you trying to act like what is said isn’t the truth? When frequently other game devs have said how abysmal OW2 is. And how they’d never treat their consumers and community this way. Want proof? Simple YouTube or Google search. It’s no secret. Lmao.

Alot of people are on Windows 11, that means it’s a good product right?

What a horrible comparison.
