Because tf2 was the first class based shooter.
When you start going down the ‘they copied this from another game!’ rabbit hole, you start to realize, you don’t start finding original ideas till you go back to the bloody 1970’s.
PS: bomb on legs started with the Mario games in 1988, went through at least 5 other games before tf2 took it.

So like is this a bad thing or are we like pointing out something fun?

DMC3 has a demon that walks slowly around with a bomb on its back in the same manner. And that game is 16 years old. So I mean… it’s not really unique.

Sure if you think about it that way then Fortnite is ripped off from Quake 3.
is it literally a bomb with legs that stops in place starts spinning and makes a wind up sound before blowing up? didint think so
Do you even know what demon I’m talking about?
The TF2 community is so annoying when it comes to this stuff, man.
People were putting the big omnic from Zero Hour next to the big bots from MvM and being all “They copied TF2!!!”

yeah its a demon carrying a bomb on its back and doesnt spin when blowing up whats your point
I mean, i could go and say they copied mass effect andromeda even in new one.
There is hard to see the true “original” take on anything in overwatch. They a lot of times take some concepts from other places, and turn it around.
Nothing new to this game, not getting why to care now about it. It will not change because they added 2 after name.
I mean, whole null sector base look of omnics might as well be compared to mass effect, and their rebelion agains creators. With mix of “god programs” working similiar to reapers and geth, one being superior AI controlling inferior one for their own goal, what was shown i think in phara comics?
I didnt wanted to talk about every hero, just few examples of the concepts they use from other places.
Like, it would be hard probably to pick anything in this game, and say overwatch was fully original with the idea. Thats normal at this times tbh with games and other media. Even some people making those might not be fully aware of the stuff they over time turn in to something new, that they saw before.
Well, as much as I agree with OP that it’s a blatant rip off.
I’m also okay with it, because I love both TF2 and OW.
Not like there are many more options for using a WW2 sea mine-like bomb outside of the water. You can put it on a hovering platform, but Overwatch has already done that. Other options? Yeah, you can slap wheels or tracks on it, but then it starts copying the Tie Mauler from Star Wars instead…
It’s pretty hard to come with actually original stuff nowadays and I’d say that the breacher still looks sufficiently different from the sentry buster (like I said: protective cover, additional support legs, but also a bomb that looks distinctive enough and the whole thing actually looks like a robot instead of just a bomb on legs) for it to not be a blatant copy.

So your hang up is the spinning part? Or the legs part? Maybe the spikes?
At a certain point invoking familiar tropes and heavy visual queues is important to gameplay. Even if you don’t know them personally, seamine’s and bombs with trigger spikes are a trope, you see it and you think bomb. Spinning is an easy to spot windup to exploding since it can get faster and faster to show priority.
Not to mention this thing is far and above the complexity of the ol bomb with dude legs. It deploys 2ndary stabilizing legs when it sets down to business, it has a cowl for the bomb it blossoms open like a flower.
Sure… it’s probably inspired by the TF2 bomb and shares some features. … So? It’s neither lazy nor nonsensical.
What do you want the Devs to do about this?

The only difference is that it doesn’t spin.
So basically you have no idea what I’m talking about, and for some reason want to persist on OW is copying another game. Like, you’re seeking some kind of confirmation or something.
Making a bomb carrier in no way limits you to two legs with a WW2 style sea mine on top that sits down to start spinning followed by a wind up sound to detonate. Its the same design nothing stopped them from choosing a different bomb design
I mean, I’m seeing a lot of parallels to enemy units in:
- Deep Rock Galactic
- Gunfire Reborn
- Left 4 Dead 2
- Killing Floor 2
- Vermintide 2
I.e. Exploder spiders in Deep Rock
Artillery Lobsters in GunFire
no, except you instantly knew what that thing did when you saw it and what was going to happen when it spun right?
The demon in question. It detonates when it gets close to its target, that being the main character. It’s slowly stomps towards said target. It’s on two legs. It makes a sound just before it explodes.
That’s the first thing I thought of when I saw the Breacher.
and its a demon carrying the bomb not two legs slapped underneath a WW2 sea mine
That actually looks way better they should copy that instead ngl.
It’s the… nevermind.
It’s a fun little thing. You can shoot it from a distance to make it explode before it gets close to you and destroys half of your health. But you have to try and hit the bomb itself.
