New map, Aatlas, first impressions?

These will just be my first thoughts of the new Flashpoint map, subject to change of course as myself and others are still learning the ins and outs of it. I’ve only played on it ~6 times.

Does the new map feel a bit cramped? This is sort of common for flash maps but I feel like there’s a lot more random stuff everywhere on this one in particular that makes it so the actual points/alleyways feel very small and hard for the team to push through/into.

First point is interesting, but it seems majority of the fights you are stuck at your own top choke in a cramped corridor. The wall blocking sight of the point on high ground sort of makes it so your team doesn’t have any chances to deal damage to the enemy backline or push in. People need to adapt to use the low ground to enter I think, but this commonly isn’t really done on flash maps (take NJC for instance) so I’m interested in seeing how the fights will adapt in the future kr if this wall will need removing. I personally think it makes first point feel very cramped and blocked off.

I like the one point with the two pillars in the center by the boats(?), but again, it feels hard to push into as an attacking team. I don’t hate it though, it’s been one of the most fun and interesting points to fight in personally.

The garden/grassy point that is open with smaller buildings around it seems cool but you get held at the choke and it’s a bit hard to push through. Haven’t had a good experience on that point much.

The point with the tri level terrain is interesting. I’ve only played on it twice and I have conflict thoughts about it. I really enjoy the multilevel to the point but the side main entryway to point, again, feels a bit cramped.

Then lastly the one with the tall gazebo. This point feels very nice and fun to push into and defend due to all the different types of cover for the point itself.

It’s absolutely gorgeous map!

I said it before and I’ll say it again!

Overwatch map designers are the best in the industry!

No other game comes close!

Not Marble Bibles - nothing!

A good map but wasted on a terrible game mode. They’d be better off making it a map for game modes like Control or Escort. They keep making really cool looking maps, and then put them in game modes that consistently are voted against.

How should I know? I have yet to see it pop.

I haven’t seen the new map yet since the season arrived on Tuesday…

Yes it looks absolutely amazing!

Suravasa is still my #1 though. It’s gonna look even better after the reworks too.

You two can make a custom game and vs each other :sunglasses:

Winner gets my mommy Lilith statue

It’s a good thing they finally stopped making flashpoint maps where you need to walk ~200 meters to reach the objective.

I literally have not gotten to play it. I got a backfill for like 20 seconds.

It has been voted down every single time simply because it’s Flashpoint.

Flashpoint is basically Control. In my view, it is to Control what Hybrid is to Payload. As someone who regularly dodges Payload/Hybrid maps in quickplay, I’ll gladly take more Flashpoint maps.

This, I really just see flashpoint as KOTH but without the hassle of the rounds and waiting in spawn for game to start.

Here is Cyx going over the map for anyone who is curious and hasn’t seen it

Best in the industry… in making half a map and mirror it. Honestly style is okay. But the layouts for all the new modes are lazy mirrors which makes them “fair” but pretty lazy and lame to play on.

I rather get only onwards hybrid and escort maps because there we have atleast some kind of variety in layout design…

Still haven’t seen it. Map voting is ruining the flow of the game.

Hey, nice, thank you.

It looks like there’s not much in the way of egregiously long sightlines? Which is a big :+1: from me. Cover and multiple paths make for better gameplay, imo.

It’s Flashpoint. I didn’t enjoy playing on it, and it will probably become another map I never vote for. It looks better than the other two, so I guess there’s that.

That’s just the nature of the mode. You literally need to have it mirrored in order for both teams to have a fair chance.

Just like how KOTH maps are mirrored. I don’t think this style of game mode can not be mirrored. I would like some more layouts that are different in styles but still mirrored like how we see with the push maps though.

i just played my first game of the week (nasal surgery tuesday)…thankfully it was the new map…it was…nice looking…dont have an opinion of it yet

Symmetrical maps aren’t lazy, they’re fair

You want your map to be symmetrical if the game mode is symmetrical
