New Hero Select Screen and Info Graph (Suggestion & Video)

Since the Hero select screen is being changed to a new layout, I believe there is a better way than the current PTR version. Something with a bit more info and a more logical grouping. This would not break the existing roles of Tank, Support, Damage, but rather expand each a bit more so that new, casual players would have better understanding of hero strengths and weaknesses.

Additionally, power graphs would help this with an "at a glance " function

Since I still can’t post links, a direct post would be appreciated.
What is the requirement for this anyways?

Great, I love the idea. In fact, when I was a noob, people had trouble figuring out which hero does what. People often used zen and sym as “supports” and zen as a solo healer. They also though attack heroes were the only dps, and defense is only used on defense. This is really an amazing video. Keep it up!

Hey BTC!
Big fan here! :grinning:
The idea is awesome! It would help new players and it would be really easy to do!
Keep up the awesome content on your channel (honestly the least biased channel out there!)

Oh and welcome to the forums BTW even though I know you’ve been here for a long time!

The hero select screen is definitely something that needs some work. I like your graph idea especially, it’s a concise way to do a quick overview of why you would pick a hero, it’s not too much information but it’s more than just “tank” leading to Roadhog getting picked as a main tank and stuff.

On a related note I think it might be time to either rethink or completely remove the 1-3 star difficulty ratings that heroes have right now. If you actually look at how heroes are classified under these ratings, it really makes very little sense and I don’t think it’s adding anything of value currently.

Perhaps it would work better if you had the tanks who combo well.
Like Zarya Rein or Hog Orisa?
(Btw you need to respond to replies to keep your posts alive :grinning:)

i think the combo stuff might not be good to group by for the simple fact that it can change often depends on buffs/ rebalancing etc.

I just want brackets over the heroes again.
The video’s idea of brackets, but keeping the straight line of heroes is fine for me. The straight line makes it easy to pick left to right, and the brackets help quickly find your hero.

Good point!
Also shouldn’t there be a ‘Healing output’ point on the graph so players can get a better understanding of how much healing would be given to teamates?

Question for respawn:
If Rein was to get an anti CC pasive- how do you think it’d work?
(If you include pls don’t show my name please :grinning:)

thanks, any idea on the actual number of posts likes etc?

100% that needs to change, i look at it on the PTR and its a cluster F, and if that goes live like that people are gonna have trouble quickly changing to someone they need, its gonna cost the match a few seconds.

really hope they hold off doing that change till they do a better select screen.

Hi BTC! I love your channel, and recent video on this. I think the select screen desperately needs to display this type of info for us to build better teams. Saying something simple like there’s currently “no tank selected” suggestions don’t do much to recognize team strengths and weaknesses. I think the graph shown could be even simpler than what you mocked up, but the intention with it is spot on. I hope Blizz recognizes this as a much needed improvement

I love the idea, and I agree that the 1-3 star ratings are functionally useless. Peraps a difficulty rating could be worked into the hero graph.

I know you need to read around 20k posts to get there, not sure if likes or posts have anything to do with it.

This hero select screen is way better than what they have made now with damage. In your version I can see that making teamcomps will be easier since everyone has a idea of what type of teammates (heroes) you have.

Anyway. BTC, I can’t say this enough. Keep up the good work. You’re doing absolutely great!
