I remember a few years ago people suggesting the idea to rework Sombra into a support, and thought the idea of a support hacker could be cool. I think the character from the Zarya comic Lynx-17 could be perfect for this and here’s a fun idea of what they could look like as a hero. Feel free to share feedback as this has a few mechanics that could potentially be really strong but also adds something totally different.
Class: Support
HP: 100hp/100shields
Lynx’s kit circulates around two new status conditions.
Overcharge: Can be applied to allies and doubles the speed of an abilities cooldown for three seconds (e.g. for the three seconds Baptiste is overcharged his lamp will cooldown by six seconds).
Undercharge: Can be applied to enemies and halves the rate of their abilities cooldown (e.g. for the three seconds Baptiste is undercharged his lamp will cooldown by 1.5 seconds)
Primary Fire: Lynx holds an orb covered in keys like a keyboard that they use as a way to hack enemies on the go. Their primary fire is a beam that shoots from this orb that deals 60dps or heals allies for 60hps and has a range of 15m.
Alt Fire (Cooldown of 7 seconds): A beam projectile similar to a rail gun that deals 70 damage and applies undercharge if it hits an enemy or heals for 70 and applies overcharge if it hits an ally. It can crit for double damage
EMP Grenade (12sec cooldown): A grenade that detonates three seconds after being thrown, does NOT explode on contact. If an enemy is hit, fifty damage is dealt and undercharge is applied, if a teammate is hit, 50 healing is dealt and overcharge is applied.
Glitch (7sec cooldown): A movement ability that sends Lynx backwards 15m. Does not travel through walls.
Ultimate: Hypercharge- Gives Lynx and all their allies a bonus charge of all their abilities that expires in ten seconds. This is shown as an icon above the ability tile and does not affect the regular cooldown of a hero’s ability. For abilities with multiple charges it only grants ONE extra charge (e.g. tracer will gain a bonus recall, and only ONE bonus blink.
Overall I see Lynx excelling against brawl comps where there is little ability to block their powerful abilities and not enough movement to chase them down after a glitch. Their ultimate allows their team to play extremely aggressively and overwhelm a team fight with ability use. They are vulnerable to dive comps who can avoid their abilities and chase them down after a glitch, or DPS who can outrange them.
I have a few other ideas for heroes with completely different mechanics or playstyles to what Overwatch is used to so if anyone enjoys this let me know and I’ll share some more ideas!
