So, I had an off thought about what new stuff Blizzard could do to address the needs of the most vocal members of their community, and I think I’ve got it. Here’s the outline of a new game mode that should please the pickles of all the people who have a lot to say.
• Map Selection: Same as current competitive / casual mode. All 2cp, payload, capture maps as usual.
• Character selection: Only Damage heroes can be selected; character swaps as normal.
• Number of Players: two teams of 2.
• Map Changes: health Packs no longer spawn; in their place are ult charge packs; smalls provide 10% ult charge, large provides 25% ult charge.
• Ruleset: Identical to standard competitive, including SR gain (separate from “standard” competitive; think like competitive lucioball)
Basically, this is a map mode where the only two players who actually matter on a team - the Damage picks - get to duke it out with each other, and without any of those pesky tanks or lousy supports interrupting the purity of their skill-only gameplay.
There are no shields, there are no heals, there are no non-damage heroes interrupting the purity of your skill-only gameplay with their clearly OP ability to do 1/4 the damage of whoever you picked. To simulate the perfect game for damage players, healing has been removed, BUT replaced with literal ult batteries.
I feel that this gamemode, being exactly what Damage players have been clamoring for since launch, will prove very popular. What’s more i’m certain it will alleviate the issue of 20-minute queue times for those people who only play damage heroes. And more, it’ll get these sort of players out of the hair of the general competitive community.
Seems a win for everyone. What do you think?
