Instead of co-op, you are a single “hero” and use your favorite weapons and abilities while moving down dumb bots during a campaign, while choosing cool perks to upgrade your guy.
Thats right folks, Doom: The Dark Ages is a single player hero shooter.
I am not aure how is that news, considering that Doom series probably older than most of us being alive.
A better comparison would been Vermintide or Grimtide.

Those games dont look fun though, those are like OW1 archives but each mission stretched out to last way too long
If it’s single player then it’s no more a hero shooter than Elden Ring is a fighting game. Inherent multiplayer is kinda part of the package of hero shooters.
I dunno much about this new Doom game but what you’re describing doesn’t sound like what OW2 PVE was gonna be at all.
