New damage boost 'hit-marker' sound effect is awful

That’s it. That’s all.
The sound you hear when shooting a target with some form of dmg boost (blue beam, discord, nano, supercharger, bap ult, etc)

Its mostly noticeable on heroes with damge-over-time (dynamite burn, or ana’s primary, or moira’s orb, etc), or tracking-based heroes such as Soldier. It’s this awful high-pitched ringing sound they added on top of the previous sound effect.

Maybe my headphones are too good, but it hurts my ears and I wish I could disable it lol

I like it a lot and am very happy that they changed it

I just now heard it for the first time and was wondering what the heck it was lol. I agree. I wish there was a toggle for it.

Guess I’ll have to make a point to listen for it…would I hear it if I’m playing Mercy and damage boosting others?

No its only for the person you’re damage boosting.

A while back, there was no noise/indication when you hit something while being damage boosted… but blizzard added in a sound effect about a year ago which changes the tone/pitch of your shots when you land them while being damage boosted. It was sooooo satisfying to hear.

But I guess people complained it wasnt obvious enough??? Because blizzard said in their most recent patch ‘changed sound effect when dmg boosted to be more noticeable’.

Its a high pitched ringing/chirping sound that reminds me of a dog whistle. Its horrible. Most noticeable when you play heroes like soldier/somba/etc. OR Ashe’s dynamite.

It’s hideous and needs to be reverted. My friends complain whenever I damage amp them now. +1

I like it, it’s really informative.

Though, if people dont like the sound that much, then adding additional blue hit-markers could be a different way of signifying boosted damage.

Seriously it’s like they’re trying to give us tinnitus

Yup, the new sound effect is absolutely dreadful and has no business being in OW soundscape whatsoever. It grinds on my ears.

Yeah, visual feedback may be a good solution. Or they could have just gone a different route with the sound. I don’t know how such an awful high-pitched tone made it to live servers

The sound effect is so awful that I thought it was a bug and made a bug report about it.

Not to mention inconsistent.

LMAO thats kind of epic

I normally play support so I rarely get dmg boosted but when I was Ana the other day, our Mercy boosted me and I heard it… I never wanted to be damage boosted again LOL

Try playing Zenyatta. And any pellet characters with zenyatta, like dva.

The sound reaches infernal status. :expressionless:

It’s like they could not figure out how to make the playerbase use zenyatta less and went for the less conventional options.

It’s too high pitched for what it is. It’s nice to be able to easily tell your damage is being boosted, but it becomes quite obnoxious when something like Ashe’s dynamite is ticking or you are S76 just laying into a tank.
