It has been so bad this season on Xbox. Literary got permanent banned from C9mp before even finishing my effing placements. Seriously, I’ve never had this issue until this season. Got DDosed 4 times before finally getting a VPN. But even when I did, somehow I still got DDosed!!!
Only, I know now it cant be an issue with my router this time. The first 4 times, everyone and every device lost connection to internet. However, after getting a VPN protected router, I got DDosed, except the difference is I never lost connection to the internet. No device lost connection. I was literally just DDosed direct off the Overwatch servers. So Blizzard, whatever you changed to your servers, you made this game unplayable.
You should not be playing with a VPN. That will make your connection worse. Also keep in mind it takes a lot of people in order to get DDOSed. It is not a single person job, nor would 50 people waste time DDOSing a random person.
Plus your other devices having internet is not a good indication that your internet is fine. Different devices have varying degrees of network quality.
If you want to find out if the servers are being impacted or experiencing issues go here: https://twitter.com/BlizzardCS
thats xbox servers not blizzard servers.
and ddosing/cheating on console is easier anyway because the devs dont have authorization over xbox/ps4 servers and therefor cant ban on these platforms
and even if they could ban, as long as one has a physical ow copy they can just create a new account
Are you accepting Xbox Party Chat invites? Malicious players can get your IP address (even if you are using a VPN) when you use the Xbox Party Chat function. This is the ONLY cause for having “personal DDoS attacks” in Overwatch and has nothing to do with the Blizzard servers themselves. North American servers have NOT changed at all. Its unfortunate, but this is entirely a Microsoft/Xbox Live problem. Remember you can work around this problem by changing your IP address for your router (ask your ISP for help with this), and then avoid accepting any and all Party Chat requests from anyone who do not know personally. Note that using the in-game voice comm channel does not expose your IP address to other players.
More details from Blizzard about this issue can be found here:
I’ve got emongg on in the background (twitch streamer) and he is getting constant DC’s in his game tonight. I think there’s something going on tonight specifically – if your problem is more long term it’s probably on you.
Emongg may be having specific problems, but that is only one person. Right now, I don’t think there is any specific issues with Blizzard servers because if there was, everyone would be reporting it at the same time in the tech support forums.
Never. I’ve only ever been in parties with my friends, the same 4 people for years now and I’ve never had issues prior to this season.
I have 3 other people on exact same VPN, an neither of them where disconnected. And like I said before, this has happened before getting a VPN. And on top of that, I tried to rejoin game and was immediately knocked off again.
Anyone’s Internet connection is always subjected to problems of any kind and can change at anytime (that is the nature of the world wide web). At this point, I am going to assume you are having problems between you and the game server, which there is no easy way to troubleshoot that using console platforms. You can try a WinMTR test, but that requires a Windows computer connected to the same network as your console.
I can try that, but I am already certain it is not my connection. I play many modes other than comp, and I’ve never once lost connection in any mode except competitive which is no coincidence.
I can assure you that the game mode will have nothing to do with your connection. (Trust me I have asked this of Blizzard many times.) The reason why it seems like Competitive is often due to playing that mode more often than others for many players.
This isn’t always true. It depends where you connect to. I can connect to one and get slightly better ping in OW and like 25% better ping in my FF14 game. In fact haste.net is advertised as a gaming VPN to get you lower ping times. I’ve never tried it but haven’t heard anything bad about it.
AFAIK it transcends platform type. It’s part of a larger, politcal/corporate decision to migrate from the Amazon/Twitch ecosystem to the Google/Youtube world. That includes server hosting as well as broadcast platform.
From my conversations with experts, the google servers are defacto optimized for throughput and bulk delivery, not latency. They can move more packets around but don’t really care about arrival times and droppings and the like. The Amazon guys had their stuff tuned af, and streamlined for ping on their gaming/gamehosting offerings.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong.
Putting this out there as another reason for the additional lag and unstable connections.
