Never do Drives Again

Without a doubt the worst matchmaking I’ve ever seen in my entire life. Playing tank and both my dps have combined less damage than the enemy kiriko. Reversal for losing that game. It’s unfathomable that THIS is what you guys cooked up to replace end of season rewards. Good lord. Inept.

after reading all the negative feedback from everyone on the drives I think MOST people probably noticed little/no difference in their weekend of competitive, and MOST people probably just got a free gold/jade gun and have nothing to complain about…

I think the REAL problem is the small amount of people who just get shafted during the event. Its possible some, or even most people completed this event in less than about 40 total games and maybe took em like 2 hours a day of casual play, but the people who get shafted are losing games right before check points constantly, or getting unlucky matches where even a win is giving them low points for the win etc. The difference between a lucky, or average player during the event is like a 30+ game difference to complete the event…

IMO the INTENT of the event is simply to get more players to play competitive ahead of the new season hence why they do this during the last dead weekend of a competitive season… Why make it a random 15 to 75 games to complete the event? Meet everyone in the middle and just say you need 20 wins, or 40 total matches to complete the event? Everyone wins, no one goes home sad, the weekend can just pop off and everyone can be hype going into the next season with their free gold/jade gun?

I kind of agree, I don’t particularly like the matchups I’m getting in any role, my DPS tend to stink on ice compared to the others.

While yes it has been a bit more miserable it has actually been a good marketing scheme. It’s getting more of the player base invested into comp. It definitely takes a different mindset and skill to play comp vs qp. If however, players who never really played comp before start playing it more then we will see the player pool increase and help match making in time get better.

Agreed

This highlighted how bad of a state this game is in

And how bad these devs are for making it such a short event , they are completely out of touch with the game and it’s current state

Most comps were having an insta lock Road/Widow/Hanzo/Moira and procced to lose in less than 2 minutes.

At least seeing people screaming nor yelling in open mic is hilarious.

this thing needs to go…

it’s ugly, useless, and destroy matchmaking with tourists.

^Me

It is SO bad, I wasn’t able to string any number of wins together since I solo queue. Win one, lose 2/3, win one, lose more… etc. So stupid that you’re required to get any number of wins in a row to get the nameplates.

EDIT – Added quote

Got comms and chat turned off? Every game had people laughing about it.

  • to stop throwing they introduced an event that is easiest by throwing

  • to stop throwing at the end of a season they introduced an event that finishes before the general “throw” window even starts

If this was the intent it failed spectacularly too, as most games were smurfed for the easy win streak, giving those “new” players an even worse experience than usual.

As the opener of this post already pointed out, this Driver mode is a joke.

  1. It is a limited time event on end of season.
People play ranked game based on their own time slots, now the dev are forcing players to do the rush hour.
By it hold on the end of season , most player already on holding position. Do you think they will actually join the event to risk losing ranks?

  2. The more you play this event, the bigger chance you go to lose ranks.
This event asked loads of player who did not do any ranks to join ranked game, causing stupid situation: either one side win or completely lose.

  3. Solo player got crushed in this event.
There are way more workshop team or credit farm team in this event than usual time. If you are solo, you will lose a ton of games.

This whole event just showed how empty the brain of the leader of the dev team has right now. He did not even know how the game goes. If these guys actually played the game at least a few times themselves, they will not go out with such painful event.

No no, they will never do that you see, because it makes too much sense.

Blizzard, ever since the reviews of ow2, leaned further into the negativity as the main source of engagement. They need to stir the pot with every single update and event, to keep people talking.

i hate that that’s easy to believe

Correct.

I don’t think you can say that after a single game. Things happen, the lower rank you are the more inconsistent and looser matches become.

Personally I had a bad run of matches this past week or two which cost me a lot of rank but this weekend has overall been pretty good with a large chunk of that regained. It happens, sometimes people simply get unlucky. Sometimes you don’t play at 100% and don’t realise it or think your performance was good enough anyway. Sometimes it can be a number of things, you’ll get rank back in time if you’re good enough.

Blizzard are not negativity farming. There’s a few reasons behind the current system, the uncertainty generating more matches is one of them but very much more important is that the current system is less exploitable than just having raw matches alone played as the metric and a double up multiplier for wins. There will be people who will just farm matches at the end of seasons to get it, including using bots. You want people to have more incentive to win in competitive v just grinding through the motions or worse. The current system provides that whereas the system you suggested does not.

Unfortunately some people are just lost to negativity and will use anything as an excuse to continue being negative.

My win rate just before the event (thur) was 63%. Right after the event (now) is 49%.

Horrible !
