After the update the “Show network Latency” option was turned off.
Despite adjusting this setting to on, network latency still does not appear on top left with other measurements.
it appears when you get in a match but i find it rather annoying they done that
It’s both highly annoying that it doesn’t display outside of matches, and I find the change from “PNG” to “LATENCY” quite pointless; it’s just more characters taking up more room, making the tag harder to quickly read at a glance, for no benefit.
Not only that but it seems to be reporting ping incorrectly. Checking the full network info (ctrl + shift + N), everything reports as usual for my connection, around 15-18ms across the board. The new ‘latency’ reading in the top corner is reporting a constant 40+ms, though. I reiterate, full network reports <18ms latency, while the smaller corner display reports >40ms latency. As <18ms latency has been normal for my connection up until now, it seems to me as if the revamped “show network latency” option is misreporting the speed. (For the sake of having a controlled test, I quickly fired up Counter-Strike as well, connected to a mid-distance server, and also got a reported 17ms latency there; this makes me very confident the connection is as normal and it’s only the top corner ‘latency’ display in Overwatch which is incorrectly displaying.)
I think this is a pretty important fix because knowing if your connection is doing okay or having problems is pretty vital. I suggest the ping display is reverted to the previous style ASAP, so it is both on display at all times, more compact, and potentially more accurately reporting the connection speed.
edit: to be clear, yes, I know the aim is to report the full connection time; the increased latency report I’m talking about is not in reference to that. I’m talking about the difference between the latency reported by the full network stats vs the compact corner reading.
