Hope this is the right place, I made a ticket for Overwatch choosing wrong network interface and even if the interface was disabled before launching the game and joining a match, it would eventually switch to it if enabled. I’ve also tried automatic metric and manual metric with value 10 for the preferred and 20 for the not preferred without help. Part of the response I received was
I understand that you might have a preference, for multiple different reasons, but we aren’t able to directly support switching or using a specific interface, as there exists no option to change the default.
If you’d want to see this implimented as a feature, please post your feedback on the official forums at playoverwatch.com for consideration of our developers, as they’d be the ones who’d be able to impliment such an option into the game.
I would very much want to see a solution to this to being implemented. Thank you for reading and sorry if this wasn’t the right subforum.
It’s not exactly the right forum as this forum is kinda like submitting a web ticket. Developers don’t typically track this forum for game features. Suggestions for game development and features need to be posted in the general discussion forum. However please make a new thread with very careful explanations as I myself am very confused on what you want.
Are you trying to connect to a specific server set versus what the game is choosing to connect you to? When you log onto Overwatch, the game client takes time to ping each of the different server locations in that given game region (Americas, Europe, Korea/Asia). So it knows the best possible server to connect to based on latency and other factors regarding your connection.
Thank you for your response, I will take time to think how to best express what it is that I want.
To answer your question, I have 2 network interfaces, one which is ADSL a landline that does not have great bandwith but has reliable and low ping with enough bandwith to play Overwatch and the other is 4G, a wireless internet connection with considerably higher bandwith that I use for everything not-gaming, as it does not have low ping and even then it is very unreliable.
There is a software called ForceIP that can be used on many applications, but it does not work with Overwatch. Windows also allows for choosing of network interface priority which in my experience most softwares respect, except for Overwatch. For some reason even if I disable the 4G connection and start Overwatch, join a game, then enable 4G and play few games and at some point Overwatch has switched over to the 4G, which could start downloading something mid match resulting in very unpleasant gaming experience. I haven’t had similar issues with any other software, but perhaps there is something wrong with my windows settings, as I am not an expert on these things, I’m forced into this situation as my location does not allow for other internet solutions.
I will think about how to best express this properly and post it to the general discussion forum. Thank you for your help.
