Nerfs & "Balancing"

Seems with all the nerfs and so -called “balancing” eventually we’ll get to a point where we just tickle each other and the one that laughs the hardest loses.

So, simple question. Was the game more fun before all the nerfs or now?

Simple question, did you play back when Widow did 150 body shots, Roadhog hook combo and McCree FTH were melting EVERYTHING, and nano gave a speedboost which made things like NanoRein, Nanoblade and Nanoblossom basically unstoppable?

Yeah, I’d take current Brigitte and goats and whatever nerf you’re unhappy with over returning to those days.

Ok, so you’re voting for mediocre. I’m not saying no nerf should have been done but by and large i’m hearing more often than not that characters are no longer FUN as opposed to “yeah I think it’s balanced now”.

If you actually take the time to go through all the hero changes for any one hero you will see that they do get some nerfs, but then also get buffs in another form at some point in time. Most heroes balance out and hover around the same power level now that they did a year or two ago. They aren’t on some continual decline brought on by nerf after nerf.

What i’m saying is do you think it’s possible that balance = mediocre or “no fun”? I mean balance sounds great on paper but if it’s no fun will people play?

I’d take beyblade or triple/quad tank over this any day.

It’s very hard to say because we’re all going to have fun differently. Idk man, it sucks that some people don’t enjoy this game anymore over balancing. I think in general we’re moving in the right direction.

True let’s go back to 5sec Shield Bash, Valkyrie 1.0 and PTR symm 3.0 (tick exploit)

now.
I dont miss most stuff that was nerfed away…

except scatter, Rip my sweet prince

Which nerfs? 20 chars

Over the past couple years people whining about Mercy, Bastion, Hog, etc…

I don’t know what you’re trying to say exactly. Fun is subjective at the end of the day but id bet a lot of people find exploiting broken things (Hook 1.0 for example) fun but is it healthy for the game and the enjoyment of everyone?

I’d say no.

Yes, let’s get hook 1.0, bastion shield, and double res valk back please. While we’re at it let’s get tank buster fan the hammer and infinite blade.

This is so funny because heroes are deadlier on average than ever before. What are you even talking about? What does this mean? There have been almost no significant damage-based nerfs in recent memory, and funnily enough, this is about the most balanced the game has ever been – arguable, sure, but it’s definitely a lot better than the first year of Overwatch’s life.

Seriously, what’s the trend you’re seeing where you think nerfs are making this game into tickle fights? I don’t see that happening at all, anywhere.

Still a thousand times more fun than now, mostly because people weren’t abusing the hell out of these heroes yet. Widow had enormous downsides. Nanoblade/blossom weren’t a thing for a long time.
Hook was more dodgeable than Widow/Doom and it took a long time for Hog to catch on. Mccree almost always had to at least die to kill someone.

Nowadays it’s still just unstoppable instagibs/one-shots within a luckfest, except in this current meta those heroes are much tougher to kill. Got the better Doom? Might as well go afk. You already won. Enemy has the better Widow? Again might as well go afk. Nothing you can do, you lost.
Things sucked bad then… and were still so much better.

Now its just suffer CC all game long.

It seems to me that your dissatisfaction with current Overwatch has more to do with the addition of certain heroes, and not necessarily with the balancing approach applied from launch to now. If we undid all the nerfs I mentioned above on top of everything you hate currently, I don’t think you’d be any happier.
