I agree the whole GOATs thing needs to go, but the solution isn’t nerfing each hero individually.
The reason GOATs is so strong is because the heroes have such a great synergy, not because each individual hero is OP in GOATs. Think about what would happen if we ruined the heroes in GOATs, GOATs wouldn’t be a thing (Majority of you guys don’t even face GOATs anyways) but the tanks and supports would be bad and everyone would go play DPS, do we want that? No.
So what needs to happen? The whole GOATs synergy needs some sort of counter/nerf, not the individual heroes themselves. The last patch was a mild version of something much bigger (I believe soon there will be some big GOATs nerfs), however it was a big mistake, you can’t just nerf the tanks and supports all together, a lot of people feel like it’s a chore to play them, nerfing their damage (which is highly suggested upon the forums) would make the tanks feel disgusting to play. Imagine a reinhardt that took like 4 swings to kill a squishy or something along those lines, that would feel disgusting to play, same for the entire tank roster. As for supports, people suggested nerfing healing in general, like I said for the tanks, hardly anyone would play them and they’d feel like even more of a chore to play.
I’m hoping hero 30 will be a counter to GOATs, but not a brig type counter where the hero is cancerous, enables a new meta, destroys GOATs and some heroes etc.
Maybe get rid of AOE heal stacking?
If you guys have any thoughts for GOATs counters/nerfs to the synergy, please feel free to suggest them, thank you.
This is actually a VERY accurate observation, one that this forum seems to have a very poor understanding of. GOATS synergy is the strongest composition synergy in the game currently, that is a more complex of an idea for people to wrap their brains around, so they often result to the blame game and singling out individual heroes.
I’m also hoping hero 30 will help enable a stronger composition that counters GOATS. Hopefully doesn’t HARD crush it (like Brig did), where we find ourselves having to go through a year of 12+ nerfs to hero 30…
But something that is viable and works to defeat it with the right “team/comp” synergy. In other words, hero 30 needs to be able to create a strong hero pool synergy that isn’t GOATS, and we have something really cool.
Good post Yourself. I always appreciate seeing someone grasp the games balance in it’s totality instead of in fragments. It’s like a breath of fresh air.
Actually I never thought of it that way, but hero 30 enabling a stronger composition would be good too, HOWEVER… it might be another brigitte situation, she enables another comp, people get bored of watching it in OWL, etc. But then again, I guess that could be said for every meta.
Honestly I hope this new hero enables a bit more dive tbh, I know this community dislikes it, but even seeing a bit less GOATs in OWL would be good, or even for dive to be playable in ladder would be great. Honestly any comp hero 30 enables I will be happy with. Thanks for the positive response RichC.
This is partially why I think Hero 30 will be the off-tank that best fits Hammond’s playstyle. GOATS is just a Brig Deathball when boiled down to its absolute roots. A version of Dive that reduces the viability of Brig, which running Ham over Winston achieves, is ultimately what you’d expect to beat it, considering a standard deathball is weak to standard Winston Dive.
You right, nerfing individual of tanks health\damage will feel awful.
My suggestion is nerf healing stack, and specifically do something about tank heavy comp(Not moving as fast on lucio speed, AOE healing will do less healing if it’s large hp pool and stuff like that).
