Neon Junction + Sym Wall Bug

I played a game where Symmetra placed her ultimate ability under the train railway during a team fight. Cassidy used his ultimate ability, and I (Shion) stepped behind the shield; however, his ultimate ability still targeted and eliminated me while the shield was active. I looked through the replay, and in fact, the wall was still active, and I was behind it. It’s worth mentioning that Cassidy didn’t break the wall AT ALL; it phased out after its timer ended. I believe this may be a bug with Neon Junction since it just came out.

To see the moment it happened, use the replay code “1H0D9W” and scrub to 7:45. You will see me get absolutely wrecked. I thought I hallucinated, but no, Cassidy is God apparently. Oh, and nerf Anran too. Thanks!

Hello I have also experience a similar issue on this map. I had placed sym wall down and while it was still active was shattered through the sym wall.

I showed this to my duo (a Sym main) last night and he was speechless so we immediately got to work trying to recreate it. Unfortunately we couldn’t, but we have some theories.

  1. It looks like the shield placement is nearly pixel perfectly splitting the teleporter down the middle, and maybe there’s something there with the teleporter making an unintended gap in the shield? We couldn’t recreate it.
  2. I initially thought the payload might have something to do with it, since the shatter can travel over it. Maybe it went under it and the shield had a temporary removal underneath the payload? But the shockwave clearly goes to the side of the payload, so that wasn’t it.
  3. Maybe there’s something with the terrain? It rides the curb and as we’ve seen historically, shatters and curbs do not get along well. Maybe instead of stopping it, it allowed the shockwave to continue?
  4. Terrain seems plausible, but since the shield extends vertically through the map, there should not be a place that has a “gap” in the shield. If anything, bugs would end up stopping the shatter more often than allowing it to go through.
  5. The only thing that makes any semblance of sense that doesn’t involve anything in the first 4 points is server ping timing. If it went through during the last second of the shield being up, I could maybe attribute it to you still seeing a fraction of time on the timer but the server saw that the shield timer hit zero, and while the animation would show it was deconstructing, it technically wasn’t there so the shatter would pass through. But upon closer inspection, you still had just over 2 seconds left on the shield duration, which shouldn’t be within a ping window difference between client and server.

This is a weird one. I can’t view OP’s replay due to it being patched since then, but maybe there was something with her shield that got silently patched, or maybe there is some random bug that is unobservable in-game and would have to comb through the event logs to find.

Regardless, it was interesting and a fun one to investigate. Thanks for sharing!
