"Need to make the entire Support Role more popular"

Greyfalcon 12/20/2022

Now to continue to wait for “someone” to leak the New Brig ult rework already…

Seriously Devs, support all the supports here.

The cat ate Brigitte and took over her armor.

Honestly if this gets more delayed, this is gonna end up being an April fools ExC.

Which would be more fitting for a Jetpack cat Ult or turning enemies into cats.

The more likely way Blizz makes the support role more popular is by boosting their DPS so dps mains will queue more often. The complete exact opposite of what support mains actually want.

We’ve got changes coming to the game over the next few months which will dramatically reduce these matchmaker disparities.

I’m interpreting a lot of these changes being Support buffs.

If the devs want to make Support be closer to 40% of the total playerbase, and +90% of the playerbase is Tanks, DPS and Aggressive Supports.

There’s not that many “True Supports” left.

Subtract out Mercy mains, and that already small number shrinks dramatically.

Still questionable if Devs actually do want supports to be popular.

I mean really…. Why an Antiheal Grenade buff now?

Agreed, Ana was already pretty decent, I’d take a revert of the nade buff, but keep the gun buff. 2 shorting tracers is :man_cook:

Literally just an indirect Hog nerf.

Also Orisa stuff, consider that she’s got a 6sec ranged stun, that can knock Hog out of his Hook and his SelfHeal.

Game balance should not be broken in an effort to gain temporary players for any particular role.

The role needs to be balanced, and the only incentive given should be monetary through BP exp/OW2 coins.

Buffing Ana’s anti heal was truly miserable

Because for a true support they have Mercy and only Mercy. Yet they buffed her weapon swap speed, something that true supports do NOT want, they want to support 100% of the time.

I don’t see a specific gameplay mechanic reason why they need to equalize the impact of each role against each other in Role Queue.

  1. The reason they tried to equalize the value between Roles in OW1 was to avoid things like GOATs.
  2. That didn’t work, so they put in Role Queue.
  3. But 6v6 Role Queue didn’t work, because they couldn’t equalize the popularity between roles without making compositions too durable.
  4. With 5v5 they can buff Tanks and Supports quite a lot, while still making it pretty easy to get an ideal amount of composition durability.

And the whole “That design is bad, because it’s a synonym for bad design” is tediously boring and exceptionally vague.

Honestly what I always considered OW’s greatest strength was that all gameplay styles were viable, they were all included, and you weren’t penalized for picking some styles over others.

The single worst thing that’s happened to OW was this idea that things should be removed, or that certain gameplay styles (hit scan or high mobility) should be straight better than other styles.

Let’s be real, the problem is “problem supports”. Pretty sure everyone can agree on that. The reason this is problematic is because fights are way faster and fewer meaning support abilities serve more clutch. This is why Suzu is so important especially in higher ranks because it only takes one good use to win a fight and winning that fight wins the game. (Same with anti-heal nade)

I’m telling you, raise TTK. Make fights a little longer with your support changes and the game is balanced at all ranks except for individual heroes but once you have peace with the three roles than can Trickle Down balancing take place.

Well, the way I see it. They should focus on equalizing Fun per Role, not Impact per Role.

This, its like people just can not understand the simple fact that SUPPORTS DO NOT LIKE DIVE! The entire definition of dive is kill the supports first and fast.

Who in their right mind wants to be the role immediately targeted, easy to kill, with having no carry potential?

Again asking for “anyone” to leak Brigitte Ult rework

Buffing the entire support role isnt going to fix anything. Brig and Mercy definitely need buffs and changes, but not the entire role.

The fundamental problem behind the support role’s terrible experience in-game is that the support role was never meant to be the only layer of survivability a team has, not its supports the ones that should exclusively have to deal with flankers.

Things like removing off-tanks, destroying anti-flanker heroes with nerfs and buffing glorified Fat DPS ‘‘tanks’’ into being the meta are things that directly make support experience more miserable and terrible.

Flankers and Dive tanks are just allowed to run uncontested and unopposed because its what Blizz corporate has decided is what has better chances of increasing e-sports viewership and/or transforming the game into Valorapex.

Support queues will fix themselves if Blizz:

  • Allows defense heroes prey on flankers and dive tanks like they were intended to.
  • Buff + rework Brig and Mercy.

I for one am not interested in carry potential.

Would it be nice if Supports dealt more damage? Sure. But, a Mercy with 70 HPS and 75 HPS during valk would be awesome. Moira being able to do the same damage as healing from an ability that nearly locks on so long as you keep the crosshairs on the target and do so from the range Moira does is too much.

Nothing wrong with Supports doing damage. In fact, that is what the role is supposed to do. But, almost every time i pick Ana or Zen, im waiting for the flanking Cassidy or Soldier to show up behind me. Kill the Supports and the team fight is over.

Honestly, if Mercy put out slightly more HPS players would spent less time healing and more time damage boosting. I think it is currently 50HPS and 55HPS during Valk? Make it 60-65 normal and 65-70 during valk and it would be well done.
