I’ve been trying to learn doomfist and I think im decent, but not great enough to play into high masters.
How should I be playing if we have low healer out put healer comps like moira, kiri, zen, lucio. Do I just need to be more mindful of medpacks?
And I struggle with killing a DPS with a pocket mercy damage boosting on high ground when the gap between us is far, especially if its soldier. How should I be approaching them?
The first thing you need to do is make sure you’re spamming “And dey say…” as often as possible. It disorients the enemy and charges your ultimate faster.
You improve by not playing doomfist, most tanks counter him really bad, the only time you have a chance is if another baddie hero pick decides to play ball
Watch good streamers who play Doomfist instead of asking us bad players who also hate Doomfist how to play Doomfist.
Zbra’s vod reviews in my experience are good and tend to demonstrate basic mistakes many doom players make higher up still and what they should do instead. His playstyle also doesn’t go all in on weird techs that most people won’t learn, but I think all the Doom one trick streamers have something of their own to teach by just watching what they do.
Doom is a very hated hero, but he also has some of the most dedicated players who have spent years learning every detail no matter how trash/good the hero itself is. I just don’t think you’ll learn that by asking people here, lol.
First of all, EVERYONE struggles to deal with pocket mercy. Mercy in general has been needing nerfs for a while but shes a fan favorite so blizzard would never nerf mercy. Thats the reason why they released the life guard mercy skin, its because they know the fans would instantly buy it during a time when the game is not doing so hot. Anyway I’m off topic, if you wanna play doom then just keep playing doom and keep practicing. The best doom players I noticed are the ones that actually peel for their team. For example if you know the enemy has flankers, its your job to instantly dive them the second they engage your allies. I cant tell you how many easy kills you will get whenever you see a cocky genji/tracer/reaper go into your backline thinking they are gonna get a kill, only for you to come and stun them to another planet.
Your real hardest games are gonna be vs sombra and mc.cheese with those grenades. Your best bet is to probably switch or change your playstyle and play more passively, don’t dive unless someone takes damage. If you fail to get kills then consider switching. Play doom like your life depends on it, for example don’t expect any heals from your team. You are better off as you said going for health packs. Always try and pick off the easiest targets like hanzo, widow, ashe if she doesnt have a pocket etc. always focus supports and you should be ok. The rest is all up to you, im not the greatest doom out there, its not my real specialty but I do know a doom friend of mine also in GM and thats how he plays him.
Patience, think how will you aproach the situation, when watching zbra you can see he plays more patiently, it may look flashy to the enemy but it in reality he is very patient with his aproach and waits for an opening. Ive had more success just being patient with doom, then going in blindly and “setting up plays”, something i also realize is that doom has no synergy with the support choice, you are more reliant on your dps to secure a opening, in higher elos i would think supports will eventually matter, but at lower ranks it doesnt really matter what supports you have. You will be limited by knowing how to move doom if you don’t master his tech but if you have a basic understanding of being patient and aproach the fight differently you will be better at him.
Dealing with counters isn’t much of a issue if you pay attention to cds and usage, sombra for example will hack you, so you wait it out for sombra to hack you, block and get power punch easy, since there is a cd for sombra to hack you you can seize the oportunity. Baiting abilities is essential for dooms survival so always pay attention to cds.
My experience is that doomfist only carries matches if the other tank lets him do whatever he wants, or he does gorilla warfare where he jumps in gets a pick or try to get a pick then jumps out…
Yeah, I don’t really see much doomfist disgust anymore. The hated era of Doomfist was during his DPS reign. Where even newbie players could fish for easy kills by charging up punch, then rushing to get out. Along with having kills set-ups on all his moves from shotgun.
The only time Doomfist was disliked in OW2 I feel was peak season 2 where he had like 3sec punch and 80 dps empower punch off block. The amount of stun this dude could inflict was insanely high until they neutered his empower punch to 100 and 3 → 4sec punch.
Not only did he move away from probably being like top 3 tank to simply a strong pick that could make a lot of self generating plays if you know how to use him well.
