Need help with tracer benchmarks

So I have been in silver since I started playing Overwatch on pc. Incidentally I have also been a support main since I started playing Overwatch on pc. My aim isn’t the greatest so I gravitated towards healing and tanking to make up for it.

I have done a lot to improve my aim lots of practice and drills, adjusting my dpi and sensitivity and I also got a new big mouse pad and a nice gaming mouse. I feel like I can carry my weight now as dps.

Season 10 Is when I am going to start maining tracer. I know I know with the addition of brig this might seem like a bad time but I have spent a lot of time in DM and QP and she isn’t that hard to either kill or ignore … I mean unless she sneaks up on me.

So the point of this thread. I don’t want tips or help on playing tracer I think I have a pretty good feel for her. What I want to know is what should I be looking for stat wise I.e damage done , Elims, deaths and what not. When should I switch off tracer like what kind of comp would counter her or what comps doesn’t she fit into.

Stats aren’t really a benchmark aside from maybe elims per death. Just pay attention to when your team is going in, so you can have an impact on the flank.

I do understand that it’s going to be different every game and that sometimes it’s better just to distract and annoy than get all the kills. I also have learned to stay behinde the tanks until I have a solid plan or see someone low health or out of position.

But yeah like Elims per death ratio what is good? I think my Elims per 10 mins is around 20 and my deaths per 10 min is 7.

I should also mention this is my alt account.

When to switch off? When you get killed 2-3 times in a row against Brigitte switch off to a long range hero. Cause if she is killing you, it means you aren’t playing well, or she is playing too well, you aren’t going to do much better if you continue to be stubborn and won’t switch.

Which I guess applies to all situations. If you are getting killed without finishing off kills (golds don’t matter, you need to keep in mind how many finishing blows you are doing, how many people you are actually killing from full health before you die)

So yeah, don’t look at your elim vs death stat, but rather every time you kill something think about how much you actually contributed to the kill. When you look at dmg question how much of it is from attacking tanks, cause if it’s mostly from that, you aren’t actually doing your job, which is killing squishes.

There’s a final blow stat with tracer on the right, keep track of that rather than elims.

tracer can kill very quickly. dont worry about X per 10min, worry about k/d… if you can keep it above 3.0 youll likely be fine.

minimum accuracy 30%, 40 is good and 50% is like dafran status. generally speaking, you wanna be as close to your target as possible (5m seems the sweet spot) due to weapon spread. dont be that guy shooting at stuff a mile away, hardly any at all of your shots will hit.

dont bother with reticle bloom, its pointless on tracer. it makes sense on soldier but thats all.

stay behind tanks only while regrouping usually… once youre good youre basically always running around the map on a flank. the rule for tracer is always be moving… youre too easily killed and if you sit still longer than about 2sec that really screws with the timing of recall (3sec window). a couple exceptions exist, like waiting on 1st point temple for the enemy to push in etcetc.

dont ‘spray’ shots at ppl prior to engaging. you just did no dmg, or maybe like 10 pts of dmg and yay, you just announced your presence and now they suddenly get in coms saying tracer right, blahblah. in other words, ninja style is best. pop up outta nowwhere, blast ppl hard and fast and recall out.

switch off against a junkrat or mccree who are just playing better than you are. anyone else is a perfectly acceptable ult battery.

Stats like damage and even accuracy don’t mean much. Top tracers have 8k-10k average dmg per 10 mins. But some only go for healers whereas others farm tanks. Two people in the top 10 having 25% gap in output speaks to this.

Worry about KD and final blows.

tips from a 4200 tracer player

  1. get kills dont die, the less you die, the more damage you can do for longer.
  2. wait for your team to go in, let the team fight start before attacking someone or getting spotted, as it will make it easier to isolate someone for the 1v1
  3. know health pack locations and timings. abusing health packs can mean you’ll be alive longer and have to use recall less, and can be abused in less favorable 1v1s
  4. try and have 2 blinks up as long as you can, and save recall until you absolutely need it. the reason you want 2 blinks is if theres something that must absolutely be avoided, it’ll give you extra mobility that you need. recall is the same but its if you run out of blinks and have no other options.
  5. keep track of enemy cooldowns. pay attention to when hook is used, when flashbang is used, helix, heal pad, and when certain characters use their mobility cooldowns. if you know a certain character used an ability, you can exploit that and target that character.
  6. dont pick tracer into brigg, seriously no matter how skilled you are with tracer, just dont, your pulse bomb wont kill anything, you’ll be super easy to kill, and your primary fire will do no damage even up close.
  7. would recommend picking up a different dps hero unless brig is nerfed, something like soldier76 would help improve your positioning, game sense, aim, and cooldown management, all in one hero. would recommend trying to learn him before tracer.
