Hello. I know this stuff is personal and it’s just what you like or prefer but I have seen everyone say that 800 DPI-6 sens is the best. Now keep in mind I technically come from PS4 despite being 600+ levels here, I never played seriously as i used to play with 40 fps and couldn’t see anything because of my settings. I was GM on PS4 but I can’t do ANYTHING here, I’m not used to it, fair enough, but I feel like I have less awareness aswell. What I wanted to ask is: Is 800 DPI 6 sens the optimal? I have a normal sized mousepad and I feel like it’s too slow I can barely move when getting dived on I have to flick and lose control of it. The heroes I would play are the same I play on PS4: Hanzo McCree Soldier mainly. What should I do to find the perfect sensitivity? Should I stick with what’s recommended or find something I like? How did you find yours? 6 sens feels very slow and uncomfortable to me. Thanks for any answer in advance
Generally your Sens should be somewhat low, but you should be slowly moving it down, rather than jumping straight to a super low sens,
For shooters I make it so that when I move my mouse around 6-7 inches to the right, my character should turn 180 degrees.
My sens settings were copied from a pro players settings. Google overwatch pro sensitivity settings to try some out.
Imo, you have a few methods
- The Mouse Pad method
Measure your mouse pad, and mouse width divided by 2 at the spot where you grip it (also called grip width). Then use these measurements to force you to use every single spot on your pad for accuracy. In my case, I use a Skoll S which is about 5.7 cm at the center, and mouse pad that is roughly 48.3 cm of space, so the maximum per 360 sens I could use is about 45.4 cm. It’s prob not accurate at all but it’s a quick and dirty way to know what I should use. If you’re using a huge pad like a desk mat…honestly get a smaller pad, or just measure the space you actually use to move your mouse in.
- The FOV method
Basically taking your fov, and using your mouse grip width again to find a comfortable range. The logic behind it is this, when I want to turn, how much do I want my mouse to move. If I use just my wrist do I just want to be able to turn to my left and right, or do a 180?
What I did here was take 360/(103/2), then multiply it by my grip width, which gets me to about 39.8 cm per 360.
- When all else fails, just average things out
So, I have a range of sens I am comfortable with now, 39.8 to 45.4, if I take the average of these two, I get 42.6. So now I just test each one out by doing some tests. Tracking a head, flicking to a head and clicking to see if it works for me. Then doing Flicks and Swipes to see how far I move my cursor, do I do a 90 degree turn, do I do a 180? I do this for a solid 10 minutes then do the same to the other two measurements, then pick my first and second preferred sens. And keep averaging those out until I find a sens I feel is perfect. This can literally take HOURS, but honestly it’s a better method to try than playing for months and years potentially to get yourself up to speed.
You could also look up the PSA method, which is more or less the same thing just with less stress and approximation.
You need to look up the Mouse Sensitivity website to know more, as for DPI, honestly just use 400 or 800 and call it a day. It really comes down to feel, and you don’t need more than 1600. All it does is make your mouse track more movement, but it doesn’t make you feel more accurate, it instead makes you mouse feel more slippery and jittery, especially if you don’t have stable hands.
To answer that you need to know if you are a wrist aimer or arm aimer or a hybrid and your grip of course but … pretty much check this 2 videos:

This is a very detailed answer so thank you. I’m not gonna lie it is a lot to take in for me as all I ever played on PC seriously is LoL and DPI and sens don’t matter as much unlike here. My mousepad is 25,1 x 0,2 x 21,1 cm. I also turned down my FOV to 90 and I think I like it more than 103 already, currently on 6 sens 800 DPI still feels a bit slow to me. I forgot to mention I’m a wrist aimer and maybe my main problem is that I actually barely move my mouse,or so it feels. (I’m sorry I don’t know how to reply to multiple people but I have read all the comments and will try all these things out, thank you)
