I’m on console and I’m not sure if that makes a different but I can’t get his animation cancel down where you jump coming out of rocket punch. I spent about 2 hours doing it yesterday until I was ready to start pulling teeth out. I can do it just not consistently just wondering if anyone has a “trick” they use to let them get it most of the time.
Also any tips in general from any doomfist mains would be great I have literally 6 hours on him across all game modes so I’m about as fresh to him as it gets
Also also I’d really like tips and not people bashing the hero. I simply dont care if you dont like him go to one of the like minded threads to complain please.
No tricks, just practice. Though I would suppose it is harder on a controller.
I was thinking more or less timing or is it in the muscle memory? I tried jumping when his arm is fully stretch out but that doesnt seem to maximize the distance then I tried counting in my head but realized that takes too much focus. I’m probably just thinking on it too hard. I’m only just remembering to use his primary after a pounce or whatever it’s called. Either way hes loads of fun my best match so far was sub par by every standard and I was having as much fun as when I first started playing the game.
Very hard to do with a controller. Best advice I can give you is get your fingers ready on jump and the release of punch at the same time, and the second you start to hear the end of his yell when he punches, jump.
I have about 80 hours, and within the first 10 I got how to use his rocket punch jump. General tip is to hold it for half a second and jump immediately after, that’s how to consistently jump. The more you practice, the shorter you can hold it for.
I do have a guide on how to counter Doomfist which does have some tips and tricks for his kit (Doomfist Counter Masterpost) but I’ll give you a couple here.
When playing against McCree or Brigitte, slam to the left or right of them with some distance. Most McNopes and Brigitte’s will immediately flash and bash to avoid being killed, but you can dodge it and mess up their aim fairly well.
Against another Doom, hit him with a short rocket punch immediately followed by slam shot uppercut. Most Doom’s will try to punch or slam the second they come out of being stunned, and the slam uppercut will stop them from landing slam if you time it well.
Against Tracer and Genji, try and bait out recall or deflect by punching near them. If they mistime it, they’ll die, and if they use their escape ability, follow it up with slam shot uppercut to kill them quickly.
Another for Genji, when he double jumps, his movement pattern is very predictable. Hit a short/long punch to stun or kill him, making him useless against you.
Baiting out Orisa’s fortify is important. If you time it right, you can hit a shot slam shot uppercut to burst down the armour, followed by two more headshots to kill her outright. Simply punch her to bait out fortify, escape with the other two abilities, and by the time it’s worn off it’ll be on cooldown, making her free.
I’m beginning to wonder if it’s something that can be reliably done with any consistency with a controller its clunky just getting your fingers into position to do it. Your post was a massive dump of tips and tricks tho thanks!
I’ll check it out. Ironically it was a doomfist complaint thread that made me give him a serious shot. Someone posted the coolest OW montage I’ve ever seen of some GM hopping around rooftops and doing the most impossible looking things and holly hell does it look fun to be that good with this hero. If I can eek out any sort of consistency with him I’m gonna gladly move him into my comp lineup. Thanks again!
It can be done, i reccomend changing jump to an anolog stick (I use L3 since it’s my “movement” stick)
My man it’s been 3 years
Wdym?
You do know how to do it right? Punch then double press jump?
I’d recommend trying to do it immediately after punch. Don’t try to go max distance if you’re struggling. Try to just get the timing of it.
