Need controller aiming tips

Hey, console players (who use controllers), you have any tips on how to aim with pinpoint hitscan (or even pinpoint projectiles)? I’ve been playing this game for way too long and I feel like I still have room to learn when it comes to the aiming department…

So, any tips that you have?

And, no, I’m not switching to KBM. That crap hurts my hands and wrists like no other

Edit note: I’m on PC.

I pretty much got all of my aim training from Overwatch Dojo. Though his platform is PC, his warm up drills have helped me tremendously.

One advice I could give is you don’t have to move R3 as much if you’re lined up to your opponent. You can shift side to side with L3. This won’t throw you aim off as much.

inb4 I fall off a cliff

Thanks, though!

personally just…practice

practice, you’ll build the tiny muscles in your thumbs with time and get better.

tweak the aim assist settings until you find something that works for you. personally I prefer to decrease the aim assist strength a little and the window by a fair amount. like on soldier/mccree I had the window around 50.

aim drills help for sure but I personally never did them when I played console.

Honestly, there is no aim assist on PC for controller players. And if there is an aim assist, it’s so minuscule that I can’t even tell it’s there

But, thanks!

oh sorry I misunderstood your post, you meant using a controller on PC.

aim drills for sure, and use high sensitivity. 90-100.

another option is to use a controller in the left hand and a mouse in the right hand, I messed around with it for a while and it felt pretty good.

Wouldn’t I have to redo all my bindings if I did that? I’ve tried it before but my tiny hands can’t reach across the controller like that

You could just find a way to bind everything that works for you, it’s nothing a little trial and error in the practice range wouldn’t solve.

and you would only use the left side of the controller, for movement and abilities and whatever else you can map to it. I personally have all my abilities and the comms wheel mapped to my mouse(5 buttons including scroll wheel press)

Yeah, I’ll try that on my alt account.

Only if I had more buttons on my mouse ;(

I’ve found it rather helpful to turn off aim assist, I think many people would be surprised how capable they are without it. For Hanzo, Widow, Ashe, and Ana I have their sensitivities in the high 70s, low 80s area, for me it’s high enough to move across the screen quickly but low enough that I can fine tune it easily as well.

Again, I don’t think there is any form of aim assist on PC despite there being an aim assist scaler.
I’ve tried higher sensitivities, but, while the faster turning speed, I have an incredibly hard time aiming.

Just use a keyboard and mouse

Sigh
I said that it hurts me, you want me to hurt myself to play a game?

This is something I learned as an exclusively KB&M player since TF2 was still B2P, but it applies just as much if not more for controllers.

Aim with your movement, not exclusively with the right stick. If an enemy is AD’ing for example, it’s simpler to AD with them than trying to turn and place your crosshair on them.

It’s especially important for hitting targets above you, as the higher you are aiming, the less ability you have to aim to your left and rights.

Ah, I read your initial paragraph but didn’t realize you were a controller user on pc. That’s tough, mouse is, without question, the more effective form of aiming so you’ll almost always be at a disadvantage/have trouble climbing. As I don’t have the pc version I’m not sure what the scale of sensitivities are like, but I guess I’d probably suggest something around the 75% maximum range, if you get my meaning.

You mentioned m+kb hurts you to use, and I don’t know your ailment so I apologize if this comes across as offensive in any way, but I know Xbox 1 recently released an adaptive controller for people with physical disabilities, I’m not sure how well it would pair with OW but that could be something that might help you overcome the painful element. There’s also some guy on reddit/youtube that’s able to rewire objects to let him play OW in some very… unusual ways, like he used a baguette (as in the bread) as Brigitte’s flail, if you can track down his videos you might be able to make a custom tool to play with.

It’s alright! I didn’t mention it in my original post because I forgot to. I’ll try that.

I think I might have carpal tunnel (I’ve been an artist and writer for about a decade so that’s probably why it hurts so much sometimes), but I’m not sure. And it’s not offensive!
That’s interesting, an adaptive controller. I’ll check it out. I am in need of a new controller, anyway.
Haha I heard about that, that’s pretty funny. But, that might work! Thanks for the suggestions

Yeah, I would get a new mouse if my current mouse wasn’t already relatively new…

Yeah, just cheat. That keeps you from having to get better.
